OPTICHLOR SL EYE OINTMENT contains a medicine called Chloramphenicol which belongs to the group of medicine called Antibiotics. It is used for the management of acute bacterial conjunctivitis.
Bacterial conjunctivitis is also known as pink eye or Madras eye. Conjunctivitis is an infection of the outer surfaces of the eye. The infected eye will have redness, discomfort, itching, sticky discharge or gritty in the eyes.
Before using this medicine, inform your doctor if you have kidney, liver, and heart problems. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before using this medicine.
The common side effect of this medicine is stinging or burning in and around the eyes. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects worsen or persist for a longer duration.

Common
- stinging or burning in and around the eyes
- irritation, swelling, watery eyes or sensitivity to light
Rare
Contact your doctor immediately, if you have,
- wheeziness (shortness of breath), fever, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, throat, neck, itching or rash with swelling of the skin
- sore throat, bruising or being unable to overcome an infection
- changes in blood cells causing severe tiredness or easy bruising
- eyesight problems
- tiredness, headaches, fever, severe chills, bleeding or bruising more easily than normal, nosebleeds
- drop in blood pressure
- feeling generally weak and tired or another infection or easy bleeding or bruising
