INTRODUCTION
ADNEON 6MG contains Adenosine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antiarrhythmics agents. It is used to manage arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat) in both adults and in children. It helps in bringing back the heartbeat to normal in case of a heart condition called paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia or Wolff Parkinson-White Syndrome (fast heart rate caused due to abnormal electrical signals in the heart chambers). It can also be used to diagnose certain heart problems (such as the type of arrhythmia) during cardiac stress testing.
Before receiving ADNEON 6MG inform your doctor if you have any other heart problems other than arrhythmia (such as high or low blood pressure, prolonged QT interval, inflammation of heart lining, fluid build-up in heart, history of heart attack or heart transplantation surgery). You must also inform your doctor if you have low blood volume, epilepsy or any breathing difficulties such as asthma.
Consult your doctor before receiving ADNEON 6MG if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. During management with ADNEON 6MG your doctor will closely monitor your heart functions to avoid any unwanted side effects. Avoid consuming tea, coffee, or cola at least for 12 hours before receiving ADNEON 6MG.
The common side effects of receiving ADNEON 6MG are nausea, dizziness, numbness, flushing or warmth and difficulty in breathing. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects trouble you.
USES OF ADNEON 6MG
- Manages arrhythmia (such as paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) or Wolf-Parkinson-White Syndrome)
- Diagnoses certain heart problems (arrhythmia types) during cardiac stress testing
HOW ADNEON 6MG WORKS
ADNEON 6MG is an anti-arrhythmic medicine. It regulates the heart rate by blocking the generation of abnormal electrical signals in the heart. This normalizes your heart rate which therefore provides relief from the unpleasant symptoms of arrhythmia.
When used during stress testing, ADNEON 6MG improves blood supply to the heart by dilating the coronary arteries. This simulates an effect of a physical exercise (such as walking on a treadmill) in patients, which would help in diagnosing the problems with their heart functions.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
ADNEON 6MG will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into the vein as an intravenous injection. Your doctor will decide the correct dose, duration of therapy and frequency of administration depending upon your age, body weight and health condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF ADNEON 6MG
COMMON
- headache, dizziness or light-headedness
- feeling sick
- general weakness, numbness, nervousness
- burning, tingling, or pricking sensation of the skin
- slow or abnormal heartbeat
- urge to take a deep breath due to breathing difficulty
- flushing
- chest pain
- pressure on the chest
UNCOMMON
- sweating, heaviness of head or arms
- blurred vision
- metallic taste sensation
- racing of the heartbeat
- pain or discomfort in the body such as in the legs, arm or back etc.
- severe deep breathing
RARE
Consult your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects after receiving ADNEON 6MG:
- signs of severe allergic reactions (such as skin rash, severe itching of the skin with raised lumps, blisters in the skin, swelling of the face, lips, tongue and/or throat with difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
- slow heartbeat (severe bradycardia), difficulty in breathing, severe chest pain (angina) or decreasing blood pressure
- signs of stroke (such as numbness or weakness in your face, arms or legs, confusion, eyesight impairment, difficulty in walking and difficulty in speaking)
- signs of a heart attack (such as severe chest discomfort or chest pain that may travel up to your jaw, down your left arm or both arms, along with sweating, nausea and dizziness)
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Headache:
Try to take rest. Apply a pain-relieving balm on your forehead. If the symptom does not improve, consult with your doctor.
Dizziness:
Lie down until dizziness passes away and then move slowly and carefully. Take plenty amount of rest and drink plenty of fluids. If your symptom does not improve consult your doctor.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
ADNEON 6MG is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless considered necessary by your doctor. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice before receiving it.
BREASTFEEDING
ADNEON 6MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding mothers. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice before receiving it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any heavy tools or machines if your ability is affected by ADNEON 6MG.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving ADNEON 6MG.
ALLERGY
Do not receive ADNEON 6MG if you are allergic to Adenosine.
LUNGS
ADNEON 6MG is not recommended for use in patients with severe lung disease (such as asthma or other breathing problems). Therefore, consult your doctor for advice before receiving it.
HEART DISEASE
ADNEON 6MG should not be used in patients who have problems in their heart rhythm without a pacemaker. It is also not recommended for use in patients with other heart problems (such as severe low blood pressure or heart failure). It should be used with caution in patients having narrowed arteries or valves in heart, prolong QT interval, presence of shunt in the heart, or previous history of heart attack or heart transplantation. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice before receiving it.
OTHERS
Before receiving ADNEON 6MG, inform your physician if you:
- have a low blood volume
- have inflammation of lining of heart (pericarditis)
- have fluid build up in the heart (pericardial effusion)
- have fits or seizure disorder
- have a neurological or brain disease
- have narrowing of vessels (carotid artery) causing the poor blood supply to the brain
Use in pediatrics:
ADNEON 6MG should be used in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) only if prescribed by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice before administration.
Use in geriatrics:
ADNEON 6MG should be used with caution in elderly patients. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice before receiving it.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug – Drug interactions:
Before receiving ADNEON 6MG, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- aminophylline or theophylline (medicines used for breathing trouble)
- dipyridamole (medicine used for blood thinning)
- methylxanthine such as caffeine, aminophylline, paraxanthine, pentoxifylline, theobromine, theophylline etc. (used for breathing difficulty)
- carbamazepine (used to manage epilepsy)
Overdosage:
ADNEON 6MG will be given to you only by a doctor or a trained health care practitioner in a hospital. However, if you experience any unpleasant symptoms such as very low blood pressure or slow heartbeat contact your doctor immediately.
