INTRODUCTION

BACSTOL 200MG contains Trimethoprim which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage bacterial infections of the urinary tract and the respiratory tract. It can also be used to prevent recurrent urinary tract infections.

Trimethoprim is a potent antibacterial agent. It kills the susceptible bacteria by preventing the production of certain substances (folic acid) within the bacterial cell which is required for its growth and survival.

Take the full course of BACSTOL 200MG without any interruption. Before taking BACSTOL 200MG, inform your doctor if you have any problems in your kidneys. You must also inform your doctor if you have folic acid deficiency, porphyria (inherited blood disorder) or uncontrollable diabetes before taking BACSTOL 200MG as a precaution.

BACSTOL 200MG is not recommended for use in patients with serious liver problems or anemia. It is also not suitable for use in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding and in children (aged below 6 years, including infants aged below 4 months).

BACSTOL 200MG may cause anemia or hyperkalemia (high blood potassium levels) in some individuals. To avoid this, your doctor will periodically monitor your RBC count and blood potassium levels as a precaution.

Other most common side effects of taking BACSTOL 200MG are headache, skin rashes, thrush, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Contact your doctor if any of these side effect worsens.

USES OF BACSTOL 200MG

  • Manages bacterial infections of the urinary tract and respiratory tract
  • Prevents recurrent urinary tract infections

HOW BACSTOL 200MG WORKS

BACSTOL 200MG is an antifolate antibacterial agent. It kills the susceptible bacteria by blocking the actions of an enzyme called dihydrofolate reductase which is essential for the formation of certain substances (folic acid) in the bacterial cell that gives them energy for growth and multiplication. As a result, it stops the bacteria from growing, and prevents the infection from spreading.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take BACSTOL 200MG as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and severity of the infection.

It is important to take the full course of BACSTOL 200MG without any interruption. Therefore, do not miss a dose or stop taking BACSTOL 200MG without consulting your doctor as it may lead to growth of harmful bacteria within the body which cannot be further controlled by BACSTOL 200MG.
