INTRODUCTION ABOUT LOX VISCOUS 2% ORAL SOLUTION
LOX VISCOUS 2% ORAL SOLUTION contains Lignocaine which belongs to the group of medicines called Local Anaesthetics. It is used to cause numbness in the oral cavity. It provides pain relief and reduces discomfort in the oral cavity when the mucosal membranes of the mouth or the throat have been inflamed, irritated, or infected.
It also anesthetizes the oral cavity, respiratory tract, and digestive tract prior to the insertion of catheters or certain instruments used during diagnostic procedures (such as bronchoscopy or esophagoscopy). It also helps in managing gag reflux (vomiting sensation) that occurs during dental procedures (such as X-rays of the oral cavity or dental impressions).
LOX VISCOUS 2% ORAL SOLUTION may also help in reducing pain and discomfort that is associated with problems of the upper gastrointestinal tract, such as esophagitis (inflammation of the food pipe).
Following the administration of LOX VISCOUS 2% ORAL SOLUTION, avoid oral foods or chewing gums for at least 60 minutes or until sensation comes back in your mouth. This is because you may experience trouble swallowing or accidentally bite your tongue or cheek muscles during this period. Do not drink water or other fluids after applying LOX VISCOUS 2% ORAL SOLUTION, as it may reduce its anaesthetic effects.
Before using LOX VISCOUS 2% ORAL SOLUTION, inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney, or heart problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have a severe injury or bleeding in the mouth, throat, or epilepsy before using LOX VISCOUS 2% ORAL SOLUTION.
LOX VISCOUS 2% ORAL SOLUTION should be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women only if it is considered necessary by the physician. The most common side effects of using LOX VISCOUS 2% ORAL SOLUTION are irritation or itching at the site of application, which is usually mild and disappears once the anaesthetic effect begins. However, consult your doctor if it bothers you.
USES OF LOX VISCOUS 2% ORAL SOLUTION
It is used to:
- Cause numbness of the mouth, throat, respiratory tract, or digestive tract
- Relieve pain, discomfort, irritation, and inflammation of the mouth, throat (pharynx), or esophagus
- Prevent gag reflux (vomiting sensation) during dental procedures
HOW LOX VISCOUS 2% ORAL SOLUTION WORKS
LOX VISCOUS 2% ORAL SOLUTION is a local anaesthetic agent. It reduces pain sensation and causes numbness in body parts by blocking the flow of certain ions (sodium ions) through the nerves that cause pain sensation. As a result, it limits the transfer of pain signals from the peripheral part of the body (i.e., the face, hands, legs, abdomen, pelvis, or where the medicine has been applied) to the brain, which ultimately leads to loss of sensation.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
LOX VISCOUS 2% ORAL SOLUTION should be used under proper medical supervision. It is usually administered by the physician after proper dilutions. However, it may also be self-administered by the patient if instructed by the doctor.
LOX VISCOUS 2% ORAL SOLUTION is for oral topical use only where patients may be advised to swish or gargle the medicine within the mouth followed by spitting out. However, your doctor may also ask you to swallow the medicine if numbness of the throat or respiratory/digestive tract is involved.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose, duration of therapy, or frequency of administration for you depending upon your age, body weight, health condition, and sites where numbness is required in the body.
