INTRODUCTION ABOUT MONODEXA EYE DROPS

MONODEXA
EYE DROPS contains Dexamethasone which belongs to the group of
medicines called Corticosteroids. It is used to manage eye/ear
inflammation. It also helps in reducing pain, redness, itching and
burning sensation in the eyes or ears caused due to allergic or
hypersensitivity reactions.

Use this medicine exactly as
instructed by your physician. It is topical use only. Misuse or overuse
of this medicine may lead to unwanted side effects. If there is no
improvement in your condition even after using this medicine for 7 days,
consult your doctor for advice.

If you wear soft contact lenses,
remove the lens before applying MONODEXA EYE DROPS and wait for at
least 15 minutes before reinsertion.

Before using MONODEXA EYE
DROPS inform your doctor if you have any bacterial infections in the
eye. You must also inform your doctor if you have any viral or fungal
infections in your body or have glaucoma or any holes or ulcerations in
the eyes as a precaution.

Do not use MONODEXA EYE DROPS without
consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The most
common side effects of using MONODEXA EYE DROPS are mild irritation,
discomfort or burning sensation at the application site and increased
eye pressure. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect worsens.

USES OF MONODEXA EYE DROPS

  • Manage eye/ear inflammation, irritation, itching and swelling

HOW MONODEXA EYE DROPS WORKS

MONODEXA
EYE DROPS is a steroid medication. It blocks the release of certain
chemicals in the body (such as prostaglandins) that causes inflammation,
redness and swelling. When applied topically on the eyes/ears, it
reduces redness, soreness, pain, itching and swelling.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Use MONODEXA EYE DROPS as advised by your physician. It is for topical use only.

For Eyes:
Tilt your head slightly backwards and gently pull your lower eyelid.
Instil few drops of this medicine into the eyes and close your eyes for 2
minutes. Repeat the same for the other eye if required. If you wear
soft contact lenses, remove the lens before applying MONODEXA EYE DROPS
and wait for at least 15 minutes before reinsertion. Leave a time gap of
5 minutes before applying any other medicines in the eyes.

For Ears: Gently instil few drops of this medicine into the ears. Repeat the same for the other ear if required.

Wash
your hands before and after application. Do not touch the tip of the
container with your eyes, eyelids, areas around your eyes, outer surface
of the ears or fingers, to avoid contamination.

Your doctor will
decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon
your age, body weight and health condition. If there is no improvement
in your condition even after using this medicine for 7 days, consult
your doctor for advice.

SIDE EFFECTS OF MONODEXA EYE DROPS

COMMON

  • Application site reactions (such as mild discomfort, itching, irritation or burning sensation)
  • increased pressure within the eyes (after 2 weeks of use)

UNCOMMON

  • abnormal eye sensation
  • cloudy lens, blurred vision

RARE

Stop using MONODEXA EYE DROPS and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • signs
    of adrenal suppression (such as swelling and weight gain around the
    trunk, excessive hair growth in women, muscle weakness and wasting,
    irregular or missing periods, stunted growth in children, purple stretch
    marks on body skin, changes in the levels of protein and calcium in
    your body)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Application Site Reactions

Wash
your eyes/ears with plain cold water. Place an ice pack on the affected
site to ease the irritation. If your eyes are affected, avoid straining
your eyes further by looking at mobile phones, laptops or television.
Wear protective eyeglasses while going outdoors.

Eye Irritation Or Itching

Close
your eyes and relax. Do not strain your eyes by looking at mobile
phones, laptops, or television. Avoid driving or operating any heavy
tools or machines while your vision is blur. Consult your doctor if you
experience blurred vision for a prolonged period.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

Monitoring required

MONODEXA
EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless
considered necessary by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor
before using it.

BREASTFEEDING

Monitoring required

MONODEXA
EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless
considered necessary by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor
before using it.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Use with Caution

Do
not drive or operate any machines if you experience blurred vision
after using MONODEXA EYE DROPS. Wait, until your vision becomes clear.

ALLERGY

Contraindicated

Do not use MONODEXA EYE DROPS if you are allergic to Dexamethasone.

OTHERS

MONODEXA EYE DROPS is not recommended for use if you:

  • have any bacterial infection in the eye
  • have fungal infections
  • have viral infections (such as Herpes simplex, vaccinia, varicella zoster)
  • have amoebiasis (infectious diarrhea with stomach pain)
  • have tuberculosis of the eye
  • have a hole or ulceration in the outer layer of the eye (cornea)
  • have glaucoma

Before using MONODEXA EYE DROPS inform your doctor if you:

  • wear soft contact lenses

Use in pediatrics:

MONODEXA
EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged
below 18 years) unless prescribed by a physician. Therefore, consult
your doctor before administration.

Use in geriatrics:

MONODEXA EYE DROPS should be used with caution in elderly patients. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before using MONODEXA EYE DROPS, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:

  • medicines used to manage HIV infections such as ritonavir, cobicistat
  • medicines used to manage glaucoma (such as timolol, pindolol, acetazolamide, brinzolamide)

Overdosage:

If
you or anyone else accidentally used excessive amount of this medicine,
rinse your eyes or ears with warm water. If still irritation persists,
consult your doctor for advice. If you or anyone else accidentally
swallowed this medicine, consult your doctor immediately.
