RANCODEX contains Codeine which

HOW RANCODEX WORKS

RANCODEX
is an opioid medication. It works by suppressing the activity of
certain parts of the brain that triggers cough reflexes. Therefore, it
provides relief from cough, especially dry cough.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take
RANCODEX as advised by your physician. Shake the medicine well before
use. Measure the required quantity of the medicine in a measuring cup
and consume it immediately.

Your doctor will decide the correct
dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body
weight and health condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF RANCODEX

COMMON

  • drowsiness, dizziness
  • nausea, vomiting, constipation, loss of appetite
  • flushing of the face
  • slow or shallow breathing
  • difficulty in coughing up mucous or saliva (especially in patients with chronic bronchitis and bronchiectasis)

Stop taking RANCODEX and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects such as:

  • signs
    of allergic reaction (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the face,
    lips, tongue, and/or throat which can lead to difficulty in breathing,
    increased sensitivity to light, inflammation of the blood vessels, fever
    or shock)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Constipation

Eat
plenty of fiber rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and
cereals. Drink plenty of fluids. Exercise more regularly. Consult your
doctor if this side effect bothers you.

Dizziness Or Drowsiness

Try
to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any
tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Consult your
doctor if your dizziness worsens.

Nausea And Vomiting

Stick to simple meals and avoid oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if nausea worsens.

should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years or

OTHERS

Before taking RANCODEX, inform your doctor if you:

  • have a history of drug abuse (opioids, alcohol, etc.)
  • have thyroid dysfunction
  • know that your body rapidly converts codeine to morphine

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking RANCODEX, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

  • medicines
    used to manage depression such as mono-amine oxidase inhibitors (Ex.
    phenelzine, moclobemide, selegiline or isocarboxazid) or tricyclic
    antidepressants (such as amitriptyline, nortriptyline)
  • medicines
    used to reduce anxiety and to induce sleep (such as alprazolam,
    midazolam, clonazepam, lorazepam, nitrazepam, diazepam, temazepam)
  • metoclopramide or domperidone (used to manage nausea and vomiting)
  • mexiletine or quinidine (used to manage irregular heartbeats)
  • chlorpromazine (used to manage mental illnesses)
  • opioid antagonists (such as buprenorphine, naltrexone, naloxone, levallorphan) used to reverse the effects of opioids
  • oxybutynin (a medicine used to manage overactive bladder)
  • hydroxyzine (a medicine used to control allergic symptoms)
  • methadone (an opioid medicine used for pain relief)
  • medicines used for relaxing muscles before surgeries (such as atracurium)

RANCODEX can be taken with or without meals.
