INTRODUCTION ABOUT RCIN 100MG SYRUP

RCIN
100MG SYRUP contains Rifampicin which belongs to the group of medicines
called Antibacterial. It is used in the management of serious bacterial
infections such as tuberculosis (affects the lungs), legionnaires
disease (lung inflammation), brucellosis (infection spreading from
animal to people), leprosy (causes skin lesions and nerve damage) along
with other medicines and also manages haemophilus influenzae.

It
is also used to stop meningitis (inflammation of the membranes and fluid
surrounding the brain and spinal cord) and haemophilus influenzae (in
children aged 4 years or younger). Your doctor may ask you to take blood
tests and liver function tests before the management with RCIN 100MG
SYRUP. RCIN 100MG SYRUP is not recommended for use if you have yellowing
of the skin and eyes (jaundice).

Before taking RCIN 100MG SYRUP,
it is recommended to inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney
problems, diabetes, feel numb or weak in your arms and legs (peripheral
neuropathy), are underweight or malnourished. Also, inform your doctor
if you have a rare blood problem (porphyria), bleeding or a tendency to
bruise easily, symptoms of tuberculosis return/get worse or are wearing
contact lenses.

RCIN 100MG SYRUP should be used with caution in
pregnant women. It is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women.
RCIN 100MG SYRUP should be used with caution in children under 2 years
of age and elderly patients above 65 years of age. The most common side
effects seen are nausea, vomiting, chills, fever. Consult your doctor if
symptoms do not improve.

HOW RCIN 100MG SYRUP WORKS

RCIN
100MG SYRUP works by managing protein synthesis and interferes with the
enzymes present in the bacteria causing its death. This results in the
reduction in the count of infection-causing bacteria, thereby managing
bacterial infections.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take
RCIN 100MG SYRUP as advised by your physician. Shake well before use.
It is recommended to take RCIN 100MG SYRUP on an empty stomach. Your
doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on
your age, body weight and severity of infection.

SIDE EFFECTS OF RCIN 100MG SYRUP

COMMON

  • yellow orange and brown discoloration of teeth, urine, sweat, phlegm, saliva, tears
  • thrombocytopenia with or without purpura (low platelet level)
  • headache, dizziness
  • nausea and vomiting
  • pyrexia (fever)
  • chills

RARE

Stop taking RCIN 100MG SYRUP and consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following: 

  • mental problems such as visions, hallucinations and unusual thoughts
  • severe watery, frequent loose stools along with weakness and/or fever (Pseudomembranous Colitis)
  • flu like symptoms like chills, fever, headache and bone pain
  • swelling (oedema) of face, stomach, arms, legs due to water retention
  • dizziness, light-headedness and fainting due to a drop in blood pressure while changing posture
  • weakness and pain of muscles and loss of its reflexes
  • inability to focus and concentrate
  • feeling irritated, anxious, depressed, tired and having difficulty in sleeping
  • short term memory loss
  • wasting of muscles of body
  • loss of weight
  • night sweats and fever
  • irregular monthly periods
  • stomach discomfort
  • blisters
    on skin and mucosal surfaces that peel and form painful raw areas.
    (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • flu-
    like symptoms along with the appearance of a rash which are widespread
    in nature, along with increased temperature and enlarged lymph nodes
    which are characteristic of DRESS (Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and
    Systemic symptoms)
  • sudden development of rash, blisters and
    pustules all over the body especially in folds of skin, trunk and upper
    extremities along with onset of fever (Acute Generalized Exanthematous
    Pustulosis (AGEP))
  • a rash, swallowing or breathing problems, wheezing, swelling of your lips, face, throat or tongue
  • fever and yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes, feel tired, weak or generally
  • unwell, loss of appetite (anorexia), feeling sick (nausea), being sick (vomiting) (early signs of liver problems)
  • severe bleeding (hemorrhage)
  • tendency to get bruised frequently
  • painful red rash under the skin (purpura)
  • severe bleeding (hemorrhage)
  • chills,
    tiredness, unusually pale skin color, shortness of breath, fast
    heartbeat or dark colored urine (signs of a serious type of anemia)
  • blood
    in your urine or an increase or decrease in amount of urine you
    produce, swelling, especially of the legs, ankles or feet (serious
    kidney problems)
  • sudden severe headache (sign of bleeding in the brain)
  • return
    of previous symptoms after initial improvement (Paradoxical Drug
    Reaction) along with experiencing pain, swollen lymph nodes, headaches,
    loss of appetite and weight, shortness of breath, fast and rapid
    heartbeat)
  • cold-clammy skin along with confusion and sleepiness.
  • bleeding
    from your nose, ear, gums, throat, skin or stomach (feeling of
    tenderness and swelling in your stomach, purple spots on your skin and
    black or tar like stools)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea and Vomiting:

Stick
to simple meals. Avoid eating oil-rich or spicy foods, sugary snacks
and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, drink
slowly in between meals. Inform your doctor if the condition worsens.

Headache:

Take
some rest, in a quiet place and avoid using mobile phones and other
electronic devices for a while. Drinking water as inadequate hydration
may worsen your headache. If symptoms persist, contact your doctor.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

RCIN
100MG SYRUP must be used with caution in women who are pregnant and/or
planning pregnancy. Also, RCIN 100MG SYRUP may result in the
ineffectiveness of oral contraception, hence using physical methods of
contraception like condoms and coils are recommended. Always consult
your doctor before taking RCIN 100MG SYRUP.

BREASTFEEDING

RCIN
100MG SYRUP is not recommended to be taken by nursing women since it
may pass to the baby through mother’s milk. Consult your doctor before
taking RCIN 100MG SYRUP.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do
not drive and use heavy machinery after taking RCIN 100MG SYRUP as it
might make you feel dizzy, faint and can adversely affect the vision.
Consult your doctor before taking RCIN 100MG SYRUP.

KIDNEY

RCIN
100MG SYRUP must be taken with caution if you are diagnosed with any
kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking RCIN 100MG SYRUP.

LIVER

RCIN
100MG SYRUP must be taken with caution if you are diagnosed with liver
disease. Consult your doctor before taking RCIN 100MG SYRUP.

ALLERGY

Do not take RCIN 100MG SYRUP if you are allergic to Rifampicin and/or any other constituents present in the medicine.

OTHERS

RCIN 100MG SYRUP is not recommended for use if you:

  • have yellowish tinge to eyes and skin which may be indicative of jaundice 

Before taking RCIN 100MG SYRUP, inform your doctor if you:

  • have diabetes (elevated level of sugar in blood)
  • have peripheral neuropathy which is characterized by feeling of weakness and numbness in feet and hands
  • are underweight and/or malnourished
  • are diagnosed with a blood disorder called Porphyria characterized by the appearance of purple colored rash on skin.
  • are prone to bleeding and/or bruising easily
  • wear contact lens
  • notice worsening and/or return of your initial symptoms of tuberculosis

Use in Pediatrics:
RCIN 100MG SYRUP must be taken in caution in children below 2 years of
age. Consult your doctor before taking it as they can decide the correct
and required dosage, frequency and strength of RCIN 100MG SYRUP based
on age, disease condition and body weight of the child.

Use in Geriatrics:
RCIN 100MG SYRUP must be taken with caution in elderly patients (above
the age of 65 years). Consult your doctor before taking RCIN 100MG
SYRUP.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug Interactions:

Before taking RCIN 100MG SYRUP, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

  • medicines used to manage HIV infection (Ex. saquinavir, ritonavir)
  • medicines used to manage indigestion such as antacids (Ex. aluminium hydroxide, magnesium carbonate)
  • other medicines used to manage tuberculosis (Ex. P-Aminosalicylic Acid)
  • medicines used to thin the blood (Ex. clopidrogel, warfarrin)
  • medicines used to lower cholesterol (Ex. atorvastatin, rosuvastatin)
  • medicines
    for heart problems or to control your heartbeat (Ex. atenolol,
    bisprolol), lower the blood pressure (Ex. diuretics like eplerenone)
  • medicines
    used to manage thought disorders (Ex. antipsychotics like haloperidol),
    reduce anxiety (Ex. hypnotics-lorazepam), to induce sleep (Ex.
    barbiturates-phenobarbital), manage depression (Ex. amitriptyline)
  • medicines used to manage epilepsy (Ex. phenytoin), disease of motor neurons (Ex. riluzole)
  • medicines
    used to manage various viral infections (Ex. indinavir, telaprevir,
    amprenavir, nelfinavir, atazanavir, lopinavir, neviparine, daclatasvir,
    simeprevir, sofosbuvir and telaprevir)
  • medicines used to manage
    fungal diseases (Ex. ketoconazole, clotrimazole), bacterial infections
    (Ex. amoxicillin, cephalosporin), tapeworm infections (Ex. praziquantel)
  • medicines used to lower the immune system response (Ex. ciclosporin, tacrolimus, sirolimus)
  • medicines used to manage pneumonia (Ex. atovaquone)
  • medicines used for contraception (Ex. estrogen, progestogens)
  • medicines
    used to manage cancer (Ex. imatinib, irinotecan, ethinyloestradiol,
    levonorgestrel or dydrogesterone), for breast cancer or endometriosis
    (Ex. tamoxifen, gestrinone, toremifene)
  • medicines used to manage thyroid gland problems (Ex. levothyroxine)
  • medicines
    used to manage gout and other pains (Ex. aspirin, etoricoxib, codeine,
    morphine, fentanyl, pethidine, etoricoxib, aspirin and indomethacin)
  • medicines used to manage inflammation in the body such as corticosteroids (Ex. hydrocortisone, betamethasone and prednisolone)
  • medicines used during withdrawal from heroin (Ex. methadone)
  • medicines used to manage diabetes (Ex. metformin) 
  • medicines used before surgery to relax the mind and body (Ex. halothane)
  • medicines used for nausea (Ex. ondansetron, aprepitant)
  • medicines used for malaria (Ex. quinine)
  • medicines used to manage difficulty breathing and wheezing sound (Ex. theophylline)

Overdosage:

If
you or anyone else accidentally took more of RCIN 100MG SYRUP, visit
the nearby hospital or consult your doctor immediately. The symptoms of
overdosage are nausea, vomiting, stomachache, itch and headache. The
patient may also experience tiredness, sleepiness and dizziness, along
with swelling of face and eyes, difficult breathing and fast, uneven
heartbeat, heart attack and fits.
