INTRODUCTION ABOUT TOBA DM EYE DROPS
TOBA
DM EYE DROPS is a combination of Dexamethasone and Tobramycin which
belongs to the group of medicines called Corticosteroids and Antibiotics
respectively. It is used to manage eye inflammation and infection.
It
also helps in reducing eye pain, redness, itching and/or burning or
stinging sensation following eye surgery (such as cataract or corneal
refractive surgery). It is typically used in conditions which involves
the risk of both eye inflammation and infection such as during injuries
or post-surgery.
Use this medicine exactly as instructed by your
physician. Misuse or overuse of this medicine may lead to unwanted side
effects. If there is no improvement in your condition even after using
this medicine for 7 days, consult your doctor for advice.
If you
wear soft contact lenses, remove the lens before applying TOBA DM EYE
DROPS and wait for at least 15 minutes before reinsertion. TOBA DM EYE
DROPS is suitable for use both in adults and in children aged 2 years
and above.
Before using TOBA DM EYE DROPS inform your doctor if
you have severe viral or fungal eye infections. You must also inform
your doctor if you have glaucoma, diabetes, joint pain, muscle problems,
parkinsonism or any disorders that may cause eye tissue layer thinning
as a precaution.
Do not use TOBA DM EYE DROPS without consulting
your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The most common side
effects of using TOBA DM EYE DROPS are mild eye irritation or burning
sensation, watery eyes, increased eye pressure and taste changes.
Consult your doctor if any of these side effect worsens.
USES OF TOBA DM EYE DROPS
It is used in adults and in children (aged 2 years or above) to:
- Manage and manage eye infection and inflammation
- Reduce eye pain, redness, itching or burning/stinging sensation following eye surgery
HOW TOBA DM EYE DROPS WORKS
TOBA
DM EYE DROPS contains two medicines namely, Dexamethasone and
Tobramycin. Dexamethasone is a steroid medication. It blocks the release
of certain chemicals in the body (such as prostaglandins) that causes
inflammation, redness and swelling. When applied topically on the eyes,
it reduces eye redness, soreness, pain, itching and swelling.
Tobramycin
is an antibiotic. When applied topically on the eyes, it kills the
susceptible bacteria that causes eye infection. Collectively, this
medicine reduces inflammation and infection of the eyes.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Use
TOBA DM EYE DROPS as advised by your physician. It is for ophthalmic
use only. Tilt your head slightly backwards and gently pull your lower
eyelid. Instil few drops of this medicine into the eyes and close your
eyes for 2 minutes. Repeat the same for the other eye if required. If
you wear soft contact lenses, remove the lens before applying TOBA DM
EYE DROPS and wait for at least 15 minutes before reinsertion.
Wash
your hands before and after application. Do not touch the tip of the
container with your eyes, eyelids, areas around your eyes, outer surface
of the ears or fingers, to avoid contamination. Leave a time gap of at
least 5 minutes between this medicine and other eye medicines.
Your
doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you
depending upon your age, body weight and health condition. If there is
no improvement in your condition even after using this medicine for 7
days, consult your doctor for advice.
SIDE EFFECTS OF TOBA DM EYE DROPS
COMMON

Stop using TOBA DM EYE DROPS and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- severe
allergic reactions (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the face,
lips, throat, tongue causing difficulty in breathing or swallowing) - severe skin reactions with blistering and peeling of skin
- severe eye pain, redness, irritation and vision changes
- signs
of problems in adrenal gland (such as slowing growth, round face,
swelling or weight gain around the face and the trunk, weakness,
dizziness while standing up, fever, weight loss, anxiety, nausea,
vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, sweating, changes in mood or personality
and joint and muscle pains)
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Eye irritation:
Wash
your eyes with plain cold water. Place an ice pack on your eye to ease
the irritation. Avoid straining your eyes by looking at mobile phones,
laptops or television. Wear protective eyeglasses while going outdoors.
Blurred vision:
Close
your eyes and relax. Do not strain your eyes by looking at mobile
phones, laptops or television. Avoid driving or operating any heavy
tools or machines while your vision is blur. Consult your doctor if you
experience blurred vision for a prolonged period.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
TOBA
DM EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless
considered necessary by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor
before using it.
BREASTFEEDING
TOBA
DM EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless
considered necessary by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor
before using it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do
not drive or operate any heavy tools or machinery if you experience
blurred vision or light-headedness after using TOBA DM EYE DROPS.
ALLERGY
Do not use TOBA DM EYE DROPS if you are allergic to Dexamethasone or Tobramycin.
OTHERS
TOBA DM EYE DROPS is not recommended for use if you:
- have severe viral or eye fungal infections
- have an eye infection that produces sticky pus
- have severe eye redness for unknown reasons
Before using TOBA DM EYE DROPS inform your doctor if you:
- wear soft contact lenses
- have rheumatoid arthritis (joint pain and inflammation)
- have fluid build-up in the front portion of the eyes (Fuch’s dystrophy)
- recently had an eye surgery or corneal transplant
- have ulceration or wounds in the eye
- have diabetes
- have myasthenia gravis (severe muscle weakness)
- have parkinsonism (a brain disorder causing shakiness, involuntary movements)
Use in Pediatrics:
TOBA
DM EYE DROPS can be used in children and adolescents (aged 2 years or
above). It is not recommended for use in children (aged below 2 years)
due to lack of safety data. Therefore, consult your doctor before
administration.
Use in Geriatrics:
TOBA DM EYE DROPS should be used with caution in elderly patients. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug – Drug interactions:
Before using TOBA DM EYE DROPS, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:
- medicines used to manage HIV infections such as ritonavir, cobicistat
- medicines used to manage glaucoma (such as timolol, pindolol, acetazolamide, brinzolamide)
- other eye medicines used to reduce inflammation
Overdosage:
If
you or anyone else accidentally used excessive amount of this medicine,
rinse your eyes or ears with warm water. If still irritation persists,
consult your doctor for advice. If you or anyone else accidentally
swallowed this medicine, consult your doctor immediately.
