Introduction About VILODON 20MG TABLET
VILODON 20MG TABLET contains Vilazodone which belongs to the group of medicines called Antidepressants. It is indicated for the management of major depressive disorder.
Depression is a mood disorder that causes a constant feeling of sadness and loss of interest. It affects the way you feel, think and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems.
Before taking VILODON 20MG TABLET inform your doctor if you have family history of mental diseases (suicide, depression, bipolar disorder, mania or hypomania), bleeding disorder, seizures, glaucoma (increased pressure in your eyes), low levels of sodium in your blood or if you drink alcohol.
Some serious side effects of VILODON 20MG TABLET includes suicidal thoughts. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any such thoughts.
VILODON 20MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant, breast-feeding women and elders above 65 years of age. VILODON 20MG TABLET is not recommended in children and adolescents below 18 years of age. Consult with your doctor before taking VILODON 20MG TABLET.
The most common symptoms of VILODON 20MG TABLET are trouble sleeping, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Check with your doctor if the symptoms get worse.

How VILODON 20MG TABLET Works
VILODON 20MG TABLET works by inhibiting the reuptake of a brain chemical called serotonin, thus, increasing the level of serotonin which helps in regulating the mood. Thus, helps in the symptomatic relief of depressive disorder.
How to use VILODON 20MG TABLET
Take VILODON 20MG TABLET as advised by your doctor. VILODON 20MG TABLET should be swallowed along with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the proper dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of VILODON 20MG TABLET
Common
- diarrhoea
- nausea or vomiting
- trouble sleeping
Uncommon
- mania/hypomania: elevated or irritated mood, decreased need for sleep, racing thoughts
- signs of seizures such as loss of consciousness along with uncontrollable shaking
Rare
- glaucoma (increased pressure in the eyes, eye pain and blurred vision)
- signs of low sodium level in blood such as tiredness, weakness, confusion, combined with achy, stiff or uncoordinated muscles
Stop taking VILODON 20MG TABLET and consult with your doctor, if you experience any of the following:
- serotonin syndrome: a reaction which may cause feelings of agitation, confusion, fast heartbeat, dizziness, flushing, tremors, stiff muscles or muscle twitching, seizures, seeing or hearing things that are not real (hallucinations), coma. blood pressure changes, sweating, high body temperature, loss of coordination, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea
- signs of low platelets such as bruising or unusual bleeding from the skin or other areas
- signs of mania/hypomania such as greatly increased energy, racing thoughts, unusually grand ideas, severe trouble sleeping, talking more or faster than usual, reckless behaviour, excessive happiness or irritability
- discontinuation syndrome due to sudden stopping taking the medicine (nausea, changes in your mood, irritability and agitation, dizziness, electric shock sensation (paresthesia), anxiety, confusion, sweating, headache, tiredness, problems sleeping, hypomania, ringing in your ears, seizures)
- seizures
How To Manage Side Effects
Diarrhoea:
Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor. Ask for your doctor’s advice if diarrhoea doesn’t improve.
Nausea:
Take this medicine with or after meals. Stick to simple meals while taking this medicine. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Do not take any medication on your own. Ask for your doctor’s advice if nausea doesn’t improve.
Vomiting:
Drink clear or ice-cold drinks. Eat light, bland foods and avoid fried, oily or sweet foods. Avoid carbonated drinks. Ask for your doctor’s advice if vomiting doesn’t improve.

Pregnancy
VILODON 20MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women. Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby before taking VILODON 20MG TABLET.
Breastfeeding
VILODON 20MG TABLET should be used with caution in breast feeding women as it is not known if it passes through breast milk. Consult with your doctor before taking VILODON 20MG TABLET.
Driving and Using Machines
Do not take VILODON 20MG TABLET if you feel sleepy or reduced ability to think clearly, make decisions or react quickly after taking VILODON 20MG TABLET.
Alcohol
Avoid the consumption of alcohol while taking VILODON 20MG TABLET.
Allergy
Do not take VILODON 20MG TABLET if you are allergic to Vilazodone or any other ingredients of this medicine.
Others
Before taking VILODON 20MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have:

Interactions
A. Drug – Drug interactions:
Before taking VILODON 20MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking the following medicines:
- monoamine oxidase inhibitors such as isocarboxazid, tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline, doxepin, St. John Wart (used to manage depression)
- antibiotics such as linezolid (used to manage bacterial infection)
- intravenous methylene blue (used to manage methemoglobinemia)
- triptans such as sumatriptan (used to manage migraine)
- fentanyl, tramadol (used to manage severe pain)
- lithium (used to manage mental illness)
- tryptophan (used for biosynthesis of proteins to ensure proper body growth)
- buspirone (used to manage anxiety)
- amphetamine (used to manage ADHD, narcolepsy)
- aspirin, warfarin, dabigatran (used in the management of blood clotting)
- acetylsalicylic acid and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen (used to relive pain and inflammation)
- diuretics such as furosemide, spironolactone (used in the management of high blood pressure, oedema, heart failure)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of VILODON 20MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage include serotonin syndrome (agitation, confusion, fast heartbeat, dizziness, flushing, tremors, stiff muscles or muscle twitching, seizures, seeing or hearing things that are not real (hallucinations), coma. blood pressure changes, sweating, high body temperature, loss of coordination, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea), lethargy, restlessness, hallucinations and disorientation.
