Introduction About ACCENTRIX INJECTION

ACCENTRIX INJECTION is an ophthalmic injection used in the management of severe eye conditions caused due to diabetes, macular degeneration, and macular swelling. It reduces abnormal growth and leakage of blood vessels in the eye that can cause vision loss.

It contains a medicine called Ranibizumab which is an anti-angiogenic medication. It works by blocking a protein called vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). This stops the growth and leakage of abnormal blood vessels in the eye(s) that may cause vision loss.

ACCENTRIX INJECTION is administered by your eye doctor as a single injection directly into the eye, using a local anesthetic. Before receiving ACCENTRIX INJECTION, inform your doctor if you have any eye infections, eye inflammations, cataract, previous history of stroke or any pre-existing eye problems as a precaution. You must inform your doctor before receiving ACCENTRIX INJECTION if you are pregnant or breastfeeding as a precaution.

The most common side effects of using ACCENTRIX INJECTION are eye redness, irritation, discomfort, a feeling of having some small particles in the eye, increased tear production, dry eyes, sore throat, nasal congestion, runny nose, headache, joint pain, Blurring of vision, Discharge from the eye and Light sensitivity. Talk to your doctor if any of these side effects troubles you.

Uses Of ACCENTRIX INJECTION

It is used in the management of following eye diseases such as:

  1. Diabetes related eye conditions
  2. Wet age-related macular degeneration
  3. Macular edema due to retinal vein occlusion or pathological myopia

How ACCENTRIX INJECTION Works

Ranibizumab is an injection that works by targeting a specific protein in the eye called vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). VEGF can cause abnormal blood vessels to grow under the retina, leading to leakage and vision problems, which are common in conditions like age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy. Ranibizumab binds to VEGF, blocking its activity and preventing these abnormal blood vessels from growing and leaking. This action helps to reduce swelling, slow down vision loss, and in many cases, improve vision in patients with these eye conditions.

How to use ACCENTRIX INJECTION

  • ACCENTRIX INJECTION should be used under medical supervision.
  • It will be administered as a single injection into your eye by your eye doctor under a local anaesthetic.
  • Your doctor will decide the correct dosage and how many times this medicine should be taken based on your eye condition.

More Information

Diabetes-Related Eye Conditions: Diabetes can lead to damage in the tiny blood vessels of the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. This can cause diabetic retinopathy, where blood vessels may leak fluid or bleed, leading to blurred vision, floaters, or even vision loss if untreated. Diabetic macular edema (DME) is another complication, resulting from fluid buildup in the macula (the central part of the retina), causing swelling and vision impairment.

Wet Age-Related Macular Degeneration (Wet AMD): Wet AMD is a chronic eye condition that causes blurred vision or blind spots due to the growth of abnormal blood vessels under the macula. These vessels may leak fluid or blood, leading to rapid vision loss. It’s one of the leading causes of vision impairment in older adults and requires timely treatment to prevent severe vision loss.

Macular Edema Due to Retinal Vein Occlusion or Pathological Myopia: Macular edema is swelling in the macula, often due to retinal vein occlusion (a blockage in the retinal veins) or pathological myopia (severe nearsightedness). Retinal vein occlusion leads to blood and fluid leakage, which can damage the retina and macula, causing vision loss. Pathological myopia, on the other hand, stretches and thins the retina, which may also lead to macular edema and vision problems.
