Introduction About AZIFORD 500 TABLET

AZIFORD 500 TABLET is used to manage mild to moderately susceptible infections caused by bacteria and other microorganisms, which include chest, throat, and nasal infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, sore throat, and sinusitis. It is also used to manage ear infections and skin and soft tissue infections (such as an abscess or boil) in affected individuals.

It contains a medicine called azithromycin, which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics that works by preventing the growth of bacteria and helps clear up the infection.

AZIFORD 500 TABLET is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Azithromycin, other antibiotics such as erythromycin/clarithromycin (macrolides), and ketolides. It is also not recommended for use in patients with a history of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction.

Before taking AZIFORD 500 TABLET, inform your doctor if you have diabetes, myasthenia gravis (a condition marked by weak muscles), heart problems, and/or kidney problems.

AZIFORD 500 TABLET should be used with caution during pregnancy and in women planning for pregnancy only if it is clearly necessary. It is also advised to be used with caution in breast-feeding women, as it is unknown whether the medicine gets excreted in the breast milk.

AZIFORD 500 TABLET is not recommended for use in children weighing less than 45 kg. It is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years) after consulting the doctor.

The most common side effects of taking AZIFORD 500 TABLET are stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, flatulence, dizziness, headache, and/or skin rash. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects worsen.

Uses Of AZIFORD 500 TABLET

It is used to manage:

  • mild to moderately susceptible infections caused by bacteria and other microorganisms, which include chest, throat, and nasal infections
  • ear infections and skin and soft tissue infections (such as an abscess or boil) in affected individuals

How AZIFORD 500 TABLET Works

AZIFORD 500 TABLET works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis (essential for the bacteria’s growth) that results in its destruction, thus managing its growth and spread of infection in affected individuals.

How to use AZIFORD 500 TABLET

  • Take this medicine as advised by your physician.
  • For Tablet, Capsule: Swallow AZIFORD 500 TABLET with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
  • For Dispersible Tablet: Disperse AZIFORD 500 TABLET in the specified quantity of water as mentioned in the label. Consume the mixture immediately after reconstitution.
  • Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Side Effects Of AZIFORD 500 TABLET

Common Side Effects of AZIFORD 500 TABLET:

  • stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • flatulence

  • numbness or pickling sensation
  • loss of appetite
  • taste disturbance
  • visual disturbances
  • deafness
  • skin rash, itching

Stop taking AZIFORD 500 TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • sudden wheeziness, difficulty in breathing, swelling of eyelids, face/lips, rash, and/or itching (affecting the whole body)
  • signs of serious bowel inflammation, such as severe or prolonged diarrhea
  • signs of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction such as yellowing of skin and whites of eyes, dark urine

Kidney

AZIFORD 500 TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with kidney problems.

Liver

AZIFORD 500 TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with a history of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction. It should be used with caution in patients with other liver problems.

Allergy

Contraindicated

Do not take AZIFORD 500 TABLET if you are allergic to Azithromycin, other antibiotics such as erythromycin/clarithromycin (macrolides), ketolides, and/or any other ingredients of this medicine.

Heart Disease

Use with Caution

AZIFORD 500 TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with heart problems such as prolongation of QT interval, Torsade’s de pointes, and other proarrhythmic conditions. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

Use In Pediatrics

AZIFORD 500 TABLET is not recommended for use in children weighing less than 45 kg.

Use In Geriatrics

Use with Caution

AZIFORD 500 TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years).

Interactions

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking AZIFORD 500 TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

  • ergotamine (medicine used to manage migraine)
  • warfarin (medicine used to manage blood clots)
  • ciclosporin (used to manage transplanted organ rejection)
  • antacids (used to manage indigestion) Ex. aluminium hydroxide, magnesium carbonate
  • digoxin (used to manage heart failure)
  • colchicine (used for gout and familial Mediterranean fever)
  • terfenadine (used for skin allergy)
  • hydroxychloroquine, chloroquine (medicines used to manage malaria)
  • efavirenz, nelfinavir (medicines used in the management of HIV)
  • fluconazole (used to manage fungal infection) 

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of AZIFORD 500 TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
