INTRODUCTION ABOUT CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET
CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET contains Chlorpromazine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antipsychotics. It is used to manage the following conditions such as schizophrenia and other psychoses (especially paranoid), mania and hypomania, anxiety psychomotor agitation excitement, violent or dangerously impulsive behaviour, intractable hiccup and nausea, vomiting of terminal illness (where other medicines have failed or are not available). It is also used to manage schizophrenia and autism (in children).
It is not recommended for use in patients with CNS depression, bone marrow depression and Phaeochromocytoma. Consult your doctor for advice before taking the medicine.
Before taking this medicine inform your doctor if you have heart diseases, liver disease or kidney problems, thyroid, epilepsy, and parkinson’s disease.
Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctors before taking this medicine. Tell your doctor if you will be exposed to extreme heat, or to insecticide poisons while you are taking this medicine.
The most common side effects are drowsiness, dry mouth or stuffy nose, blurred vision, constipation and impotence. Consult your doctor if any of the above side effects gets worse.
USES OF CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET
It is used to manage the following conditions:
- schizophrenia and other psychoses (especially paranoid), mania and hypomania
- anxiety psychomotor agitation excitement, violent or dangerously impulsive behaviour
- intractable hiccup
- nausea and vomiting of terminal illness (where other medicines have failed or are not available)
- schizophrenia and autism (in children)
HOW CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET WORKS
CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET exerts its antipsychotic effect by blocking postsynaptic dopamine receptors in cortical and limbic areas of the brain, thereby managing the excess of dopamine in the brain.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET as directed by your physician. Swallow the medicine as a whole with a plenty of water and do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose for you depending upon your conditions.
SIDE EFFECTS OF CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET
COMMON
- drowsiness
- dry mouth or stuffy nose
- blurred vision
- constipation
- impotence
RARE
Stop taking and contact your doctor immediately, if you have,
- sudden appearance of sore throat, fever or other signs of infection
- allergic reactions symptoms such as hives, difficult breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat
- uncontrolled muscle movements in your face such as chewing, lip smacking, frowning, tongue movement, blinking or eye movement
- stiffness in your neck, tightness in your throat, trouble breathing or swallowing
- confusion, agitation, feeling jittery, trouble sleeping
- weakness
- breast swelling or discharge
- seizures
- jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
- low white blood cell counts such as fever, chills, mouth sore, skin sore, sore throat, cough, trouble breathing, feeling light-headed
- severe nervous system reactions such as very stiff (rigid) muscles, high fever, sweating, confusion, fast or uneven heartbeats, tremors
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Dry mouth:
Chew sugar-free gum. Control caffeine intake. Do not use mouthwashes. Sip water regularly.
Constipation:
Eat fiber rich foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals, and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
BREASTFEEDING
CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breast feeding women as it may pass into breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines, after taking CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET since it may reduce the alertness.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking this medicine.
KIDNEY
CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients suffering from kidney diseases. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
LIVER
CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with liver failure or active liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
ALLERGY
Do not take CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Chlorpromazine or other ingredients of this medicine.
LUNGS
CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients suffering chronic respiratory disorders. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
HEART DISEASE
CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients suffering from heart diseases. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
OTHERS
CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET is not recommended if you have:
- CNS depression
- jaundice or blood dyscrasia
- bone marrow depression
- phaeochromocytoma
- epilepsy
- parkinson’s disease
- hypoparathyroidism
- myasthenia gravis
- prostatic hypertrophy
Before taking CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET inform your doctor if you have:
- glaucoma
- stroke risk factors
- thromboembolism
Use in pediatrics:
CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children under 1 year of age. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
Use in geriatrics:
CHLORPROMAZINE 50MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
