Citinova Tablet helps in the treatment of stroke, head injury, Alzheimer’s disease, and memory loss (dementia) in Parkinson’s disease. It protects the nerve cells in the brain from damage and also helps to repair the damaged nerve cells.
Citinova Tablet may be taken with or without food. However, it is advised to take it at the same time each day as this helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body. Your dose depends on your age and the condition you are being treated for. Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Do not stop taking it suddenly without talking to your doctor as it may worsen your symptoms.

- Manage cerebral insufficiency that occurs due to head trauma/brain injury
- Manage cognitive dysfunction that occurs due to Alzheimer’s disease and other cerebrovascular disease
- Manage Parkinson’s disease
- Helps in the acute and recovery phase of cerebral infarction/ischemic stroke in affected individuals
HOW CITINOVA 500MG TABLET WORKS
CITINOVA 500MG TABLET works by increasing the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine (chemical that produces acetylcholine, responsible for memory and other bodily functions) which leads to improved cerebral function and cognitive function in Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. It also works by repairing neuronal membranes and damaged cholinergic neurons via potentiation of acetylcholine production and reduction of free fatty acid accumulation at stroke-induced nerve damage site which results in the management neuronal cell death thus helping in the recovery phase of cerebral infarction in affected individuals.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Tablet:
Take CITINOVA 500MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicines with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Orally Disintegrating Tablet:
Take CITINOVA 500MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Place CITINOVA 500MG TABLET inside your mouth and allow it to dissolve completely. Do not swallow or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF CITINOVA 500MG TABLET
COMMON
- nausea, vomiting, constipation,
- headache
- agitation
- low blood pressure
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea and vomiting:
Take CITINOVA 500MG TABLET with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods, sugary snacks and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, drink slowly in between meals. Inform your doctor if the condition worsens.
Constipation:
Try to eat high-fiber foods such as vegetables, cereals, fresh fruit, and drink plenty of water. Involve in regular exercise (going for a daily walk or run) and if this does not help, consult and inform your doctor for receiving alternate managements for constipation.
Headache:
If CITINOVA 500MG TABLET causes headache, then take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Try to avoid drinking alcohol. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Headaches should usually go away after the first week of taking CITINOVA 500MG TABLET. If it lasts more than a week or severe, inform your doctor.

KIDNEY

ALLERGY
Do not take CITINOVA 500MG TABLET if you are allergic to Citicoline, and/or any other ingredients of this medicine.
OTHERS
CITINOVA 500MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:
- are hypertonic (muscle overactivity).
Before taking CITINOVA 500MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- are scheduled for any surgery
- suffer from persistent intracranial haemorrhage.
CITINOVA 500MG TABLET should be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) only if it is clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking CITINOVA 500MG TABLET.
Use in Geriatrics:
CITINOVA 500MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years). Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug – Drug interactions:
Before taking CITINOVA 500MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- levodopa (medicine used to manage Parkinson’s disease)
- meclofenoxate (used as a dietary supplement to manage dementia)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of CITINOVA 500MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
