INTRODUCTION ABOUT EPHEDREX PLUS SYRUP
EPHEDREX PLUS SYRUP is used in the relief of cough associated with bronchitis, bronchial asthma, emphysema, and other bronchopulmonary disorders where bronchospasm, mucous plugging, and problems of expectoration co-exist (lung and airway diseases that have excessive and thick mucus formation, swelling, and inflammation of airways, making it difficult to breathe).
EPHEDREX PLUS SYRUP is a combination of Ambroxol, Guaiphenesin, and Terbutaline, which belong to the group of medicines called Mucolytics, Expectorant, and Beta agonists, respectively. Ambroxol thins and loosens mucus, making it easier to cough out. Guaiphenesin is an expectorant that decreases the stickiness of mucus and helps in its removal from the airways. Terbutaline works by relaxing the muscles in the airways and widening the airways.
Before taking EPHEDREX PLUS SYRUP, inform your doctor if you have or have ever had a stomach ulcer, pre-existing ischaemic heart disease, or those patients with significant risk factors for ischaemic heart disease, thyrotoxicosis (a condition in which you have too much thyroid hormone in your body), diabetes mellitus, or hypertension.
EPHEDREX PLUS SYRUP should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women and elderly patients. EPHEDREX PLUS SYRUP is recommended in children to relieve symptoms after calculating the correct dose according to their weight and body mass. The common side effects of EPHEDREX PLUS SYRUP are tremor (shaky hands), headache, tachycardia (heat beats faster), palpitations (feeling aware of your heartbeat), muscle spasms, and hypokalaemia (low plasma potassium levels). Consult your doctor immediately if you feel any of these side effects.

- Paraesthesia (an abnormal sensation)
Stop taking EPHEDREX PLUS SYRUP and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- Serious allergic reactions that may cause swelling of the face or throat, wheezing, or sudden difficulties in breathing
- Skin lesions, such as severe blistering or peeling of your skin, mouth, throat, nose, eyes, and genitals
- Uncontrollable shaking
- Nervousness
- Dizziness, drowsiness
- Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
- Weakness
- Sweating
- Chest tightness
- Signs of pruritus
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Diarrhea
Drink plenty of clear fluids, like water, diluted fruit juices, or oral rehydration solutions, to stay hydrated. Avoid caffeinated or alcoholic beverages, as they can worsen dehydration. Gradually take bland, low-fiber foods like bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast to help firm up stools. Probiotics, found in yogurt or supplements, may help restore the balance of gut bacteria. Practice good hand hygiene to prevent the spread of infection. Consult your doctor if diarrhea worsens.
Nausea And Vomiting
Stay hydrated with small sips of clear fluids like water, ginger ale, or electrolyte solutions. Avoid consuming large meals; instead, opt for bland, easy-to-digest foods. Ginger, peppermint, or chamomile tea may help soothe the stomach. Rest in a comfortable position, preferably with your head elevated, to ease symptoms. Consult your doctor if nausea and vomiting persist.
Stomach Pain
Avoid spicy or fatty foods, caffeine, or alcohol that may exacerbate symptoms. Eat a bland diet consisting of easily digestible foods like rice, bananas, applesauce, and toast. Applying a heating pad or taking a warm bath can also help soothe abdominal muscles and alleviate discomfort. Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated but avoid excessive consumption to prevent further irritation. If stomach pain persists, consult your doctor.

INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
- Antihypertensives (Ex. propranolol)
- Diuretics (Ex. spironolactone)
- Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (Ex. isocarboxazid)
- Methyl xanthine (Ex. aminophylline)
- Corticosteroids (Ex. deflazacort)
- Antibiotics (Ex. ampicillin, amoxicillin, and erythromycin)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of EPHEDREX PLUS SYRUP, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of an overdose are abdominal pain, agitation, palpitations (being of your heartbeat), seizures or fits, hypertension, hypotension (fainting), tachycardia (increased heartbeat), nervousness, headache, tremor, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, malaise (weakness), and insomnia (sleeplessness).
