Introduction About HEMOTAG XT SYRUP
HEMOTAG XT SYRUP contains Ferrous ascorbate and Folic acid which belongs to the group of medicines called Hematinics. It is used to manage iron deficiency anaemia during pregnancy, lactation, post-surgery, haemodialysis or blood loss during periods.
Anemia is when your body can’t produce enough of haemoglobin (a substance in red blood cells that enables them to carry oxygen), due to insufficient iron. Avoid consuming alcohol while taking HEMOTAG XT SYRUP.
HEMOTAG XT SYRUP is not recommended for use if you have iron overload disorders, haemoglobinopathies, inflammatory bowel disease or an active stomach ulcer. Before taking HEMOTAG XT SYRUP, inform your doctor if you have erythropoietic protoporphyria, diabetes, high blood pressure or any kidney or liver issues.
HEMOTAG XT SYRUP should be used in pregnancy only if clearly needed. Safety and efficacy of HEMOTAG XT SYRUP in children have not been established so, consult your child’s doctor for advice.
The most common side effects of taking HEMOTAG XT SYRUP are stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, dark stools, stomach pain and temporary staining of teeth. If any of the symptoms worsen, call your doctor.

It is used to manage iron deficiency anaemia during:

- post-surgery

HEMOTAG XT SYRUP helps manage anaemia where Ferrous ascorbate aids in the formation of haemoglobin (substance that carries oxygen to tissues and organs via blood) and Folic acid helps maintain the normal formation of new red blood cells (erythropoiesis).
How to use HEMOTAG XT SYRUP
Take HEMOTAG XT SYRUP as advised by your physician. Shake well before use. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea:
Take HEMOTAG XT SYRUP with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Vomiting:
Get adequate rest. Drink lots of fluids, especially water. Have small sips if you feel sick. Eat when you feel like it – you don’t need to eat or avoid any specific foods. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Diarrhea:
Have enough liquids like water or fruit juice to maintain hydration. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Constipation:
Have plenty of fiber rich foods like fresh fruits, vegetables, cereals and drink ample amount of water. Exercise more regularly. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.

Alcohol

Kidney
HEMOTAG XT SYRUP should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor for advice.
Liver
HEMOTAG XT SYRUP should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor for advice.
Allergy
Do not take HEMOTAG XT SYRUP if you are allergic to ferrous ascorbate, folic acid or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Heart Disease
HEMOTAG XT SYRUP should be used with caution in patients having high blood pressure. Consult your doctor for advice.
Others
HEMOTAG XT SYRUP is not recommended for use if you have:
- iron overload disorders (Ex. haemosiderosis, haemochromatosis)
- haemoglobinopathies (abnormal haemoglobin production)
- inflammatory bowel disease
- an active stomach ulcer
Before taking HEMOTAG XT SYRUP, inform your doctor if you:
- have erythropoietic protoporphyria (a rare genetic disorder that causes pain in the skin when exposed to sunlight)
- have diabetes
- are about to undergo any procedure or surgery
Use in Pediatrics:
Safety and efficacy of HEMOTAG XT SYRUP in children have not been established. Consult your child’s doctor for advice.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Before taking HEMOTAG XT SYRUP, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- medicines used to manage acidity (Ex. magnesium hydroxide, sodium bicarbonate, aluminium carbonate, omeprazole)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of HEMOTAG XT SYRUP, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
