LAMITOR DT 100MG
TABLET contains Lamotrigine which belongs to the group of medicines
called Anti-epileptics. It is used along with other medicines to manage
epilepsy (phase of uncontrolled electrical signals in the brain, causing
seizures).

USES OF LAMITOR DT 100MG TABLET

LAMITOR DT 100MG TABLET manages:

  • epilepsy
  • bipolar I disorder

HOW LAMITOR DT 100MG TABLET WORKS

LAMITOR
DT 100MG TABLET likely works similarly in bipolar disorder, as it does
in reducing seizures. It acts by inhibiting sodium currents (which is
out of control in epileptic patients) via suppression of the release of
glutamate (an excitatory brain chemical).

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take LAMITOR DT 100MG TABLET as advised by your physician. You can take it with meals or on an empty stomach.

For Tablet: Swallow LAMITOR DT 100MG TABLET with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew it.

For Dispersible Tablet: Disperse LAMITOR
DT 100MG TABLET in the specified quantity of water as mentioned in the
label. Consume the mixture immediately after reconstitution.

Your
doctor will decide a proper dose and duration of therapy for you
according to your age, body weight and disease condition. Continue to
take LAMITOR DT 100MG TABLET for the prescribed duration to achieve
better results. Do not stop taking LAMITOR DT 100MG TABLET unless your
doctor advises you to stop.

SIDE EFFECTS OF LAMITOR DT 100MG TABLET

COMMON

  • dizziness, headache
  • sleepiness or lack of sleep
  • shaking, lack of coordination
  • back pain, tiredness
  • nausea, vomiting, stomach pain
  • diarrhea, dry mouth
  • rash
  • blurred or double vision
  • fever, stuffy nose, sore throat
  • infections (including seasonal flu)

UNCOMMON

  • unusual hair loss or thinning (alopecia)
  • skin rashes or sunburn after exposure to sun or artificial light (photosensitivity)

RARE

  • conjunctivitis (itchy eyes with discharge, crusty eyelids)
  • meningitis (symptoms including fever, nausea, vomiting, headache, stiff neck and extreme sensitivity to bright light)
  • nystagmus (rapid and uncontrollable eye movements)
  • Stevens-Johnson syndrome (a life-threatening skin reaction)

Stop taking LAMITOR DT 100MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • serious skin reaction (skin rash, blistering or peeling, hives, painful sores in your mouth or around your eyes)
  • blood
    or liver problems (fever, frequent infections, severe muscle pain,
    swollen face, eyes, lips, tongue or lymph nodes, unusual bruising or
    bleeding, paleness, weakness, fatigue, yellow skin or eyes, trouble
    walking or seeing, fits for the first time or happening more often, pain
    or tenderness in upper stomach area)
  • heartbeat problems (fast, slow or pounding heartbeat, feel your heart skip a beat, breathlessness, chest pain, lightheadedness)
  • (suicidal
    ideas or attempt, new or worsening depression, anxiety or irritability,
    agitation or restlessness, aggression, anger or violence, acting on
    dangerous impulses, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, extremely increased
    activity and talking, other unusual changes in behavior or mood)
  • aseptic
    meningitis (headache, fever, nausea, vomiting, stiff neck, rash,
    unusual light sensitivity, muscle pains, chills, confusion, drowsiness)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea:

Take
LAMITOR DT 100MG TABLET with or just after meals. Stick to simple
meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. If symptom persists, contact
your doctor.

Vomiting:

Get adequate rest.
Drink lots of fluids, especially water. Have small sips if you feel
sick. Eat when you feel like it – no need to eat or avoid any specific
foods. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.

Diarrhea:

Drink fluids such as water or fruit juices so that you are sufficiently hydrated. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.

Dry mouth:

Sip
water regularly and other sugar free liquids. Do not use
alcohol-containing mouthwashes because they can make your mouth dry, use
the one that is used only for dry mouth. Limit your caffeine intake.
Avoid smoking or using tobacco products. If symptom persists, contact
your doctor.

Headache:

Drink plenty of
water and get adequate rest. Try to be relaxed and stress free. Take
medicine for headache after asking your doctor. If symptom persists,
contact your doctor.

Dizziness:

Lie down
until dizziness gets better, then gradually get up. Don’t hurry and move
slowly and carefully. Get adequate rest. Drink plenty of water and
other fluids. Avoid coffee, cigarettes, alcohol and drugs. If symptom
persists, contact your doctor.

Skin rash:

Avoid
hot showers to manage further irritation of skin. Do not scratch the
affected area. Use protective clothing when going outdoors. Regularly
moisturize your skin. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.

Blurred vision:

Do
not drive or go outside on your own if you have blurred eyesight. Close
your eyes for some time until you have a clear vision. Call your doctor
if your vision remains blur for a long period.

PREGNANCY

LAMITOR
DT 100MG TABLET should be used with caution in women who are pregnant
or planning to have a baby. Consult your doctor before taking it.

BREASTFEEDING

LAMITOR
DT 100MG TABLET should be used with caution in breastfeeding women as
it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking
it.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do
not drive or operate any machines if you experience dizziness,
sleepiness and other symptoms and signs of central nervous system
depression after taking LAMITOR DT 100MG TABLET.

KIDNEY

LAMITOR DT 100MG TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with kidney impairment. Consult your doctor before taking it.

LIVER

LAMITOR
DT 100MG TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with moderate
to severe liver problems. Consult your doctor before taking it.

ALLERGY

Do
not take LAMITOR DT 100MG TABLET if you are allergic to Lamotrigine or
any of the other ingredients of this medicine. Inform your doctor if you
had a rash or allergic reaction to another antiepileptic medicine.

HEART DISEASE

LAMITOR
DT 100MG TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with a
personal or family history of heart problems or irregular heartbeats,
including genetic abnormalities. Consult your doctor before taking it.

OTHERS

Before taking LAMITOR DT 100MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

  • have or had depression, suicidal ideas or behavior or mood problems
  • had aseptic meningitis after taking LAMITOR DT 100MG TABLET

Use in pediatrics:

LAMITOR DT 100MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children (under 2 years of age). Consult your child’s doctor for advice.

Use in geriatrics:

LAMITOR
DT 100MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged
above 75 years). Consult your doctor before taking it.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking LAMITOR DT 100MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

  • medicines used to manage epilepsy and mental health problems (Ex. oxcarbazepine, phenobarbital, primidone, phenytoin, valproate)
  • medicines used for HIV management (Ex. lopinavir, ritonavir, atazanavir, ritonavir)
  • medicines used to manage pregnancy (Ex. ethinylestradiol, levonorgestrel)
  • rifampin (used for bacterial infections like tuberculosis)

Overdosage:

If
you or anyone else accidentally take too much of LAMITOR DT 100MG
TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
Symptoms of LAMITOR DT 100MG TABLET overdose are disturbed coordination,
balance and speech, rapid uncontrolled eye movements, fits and
decreased level of consciousness.
