INTRODUCTION ABOUT SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET
SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET contains Sitagliptin which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-diabetic drugs. SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET is used in adults to manage type 2 diabetes alone or along with other anti-diabetic medicines, diet and exercise.
Type 2 diabetes is a condition in which your body does not make enough insulin (a hormone that helps control your blood sugar levels) or the insulin that is produced does not work well. When this happens, glucose levels rise in the blood and can lead to serious medical problems like heart, or kidney disease and blindness. It can show symptoms like increased thirst, urination and hunger, blurry vision, numbness in hands or feet or tiredness.
Before taking SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET, inform your doctor if you have any disease of the pancreas, gallstones, alcohol dependence, very high levels of fat in your blood, type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, or any kidney or heart problems. SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET is not recommended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, therefore consult your doctor before taking it.
SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. The most common side effects of taking SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET are low blood sugar, headache, upper respiratory infection, stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, osteoarthritis, and arm or leg pain. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

HOW SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET WORKS
SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET works by slowing down the inactivation of gut hormones released after eating the meals. This kind of action increases the secretion of insulin and decrease glucagon release (hormone which raises blood glucose level), resulting in an overall increase in blood glucose control.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET
COMMON
- signs of low blood sugar (drowsiness, irritability, hunger, dizziness, confusion, sweating, weakness, and fast heartbeat)
- headache
- stuffy or runny nose, sore throat
- joint pain
- nausea, flatulence, vomiting
UNCOMMON
- stomach pain
- diarrhea
- constipation
- itching
RARE
- signs of reduced number of platelets (easy bleeding or bruising)
Stop taking SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of pancreatitis (severe and continuous pain in the stomach area which might reach through your back with or without nausea and vomiting)
- signs of serious allergic reaction (rash, hives, blistering or peeling of skin and swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and throat that may cause trouble breathing or difficulty in swallowing)
- bullous pemphigoid symptoms such as skin blistering
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Constipation
Eat plenty of fiber rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly. If there is no improvement, consult your doctor.
Dizziness Or Drowsiness
Lie down until dizziness is gone, then get up slowly. Move slowly and carefully, do not hurry. Get adequate rest. Drink plenty of water and other fluids. Avoid cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs. If there is no improvement, consult your doctor.
Headache
Drink ample amount of water. Get adequate rest. Try to be relaxed and stress free. Ask your doctor before taking any medicine for headache.
Nausea And Vomiting
Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily, fried, and spicy foods. Do not perform any strenuous activities immediately after eating. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.
Stomach Pain
Rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and frequent meals. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

BREASTFEEDING
Contraindicated
SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it is not known if it passes into human breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Use with Caution
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy or drowsy after taking SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET.
ALCOHOL

Before taking SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET, inform your doctor if you have or had alcohol dependence.
KIDNEY
Use with Caution
SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking it.
ALLERGY
Contraindicated
Do not take SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET if you are allergic to Sitagliptin.
USE IN PEDIATRICS
Contraindicated
SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Consult child’s doctor for advice.
USE IN GERIATRICS
Use with Caution
SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET.
OTHERS
Before taking SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET, inform your doctor if you have or have had:
- inflammation of your pancreas
- gallstones
- excessive levels of fat in your blood
- type 1 diabetes
- diabetic ketoacidosis
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- other medicines used in the management of diabetes (Ex. insulin, glimepiride, metformin)
- digoxin (used to manage irregular heartbeat and other heart conditions)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of SITAPRIL M 500 TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
