INTRODUCTION ABOUT VANLID 250MG INJECTION

VANLID
250MG INJECTION contains Vancomycin which belongs to the group of
medicines called Glycopeptide antibiotics. It is used for the management
of serious infections caused by susceptible strains of
methicillin-resistant (beta-lactam-resistant) staphylococci bacteria.

VANLID
250MG INJECTION is used for the management of endocarditis (infection
to the inner lining of heart with symptoms of fever, chills, difficulty
in breathing etc) as well as is used for the management of hospital
acquired pneumonia, infections of skin and tissues below skin, bone and
joints (involves osteomyelitis, arthritis, spinal infections etc with
symptoms of pain, fever, chills, swelling in joints etc).

Also,
it is used to manage central nervous system infection (meningitis,
abscess, brain enlargement with symptoms of headache, fever, mood
changes) and blood caused by bacteria. Symptoms of these infections are
usually recurrent fever and chills, headache and difficulty in
breathing. VANLID 250MG INJECTION is also used to manage infections in
patients who are allergic to the medicines containing penicillin and
cephalosporins.

Before receiving VANLID 250MG INJECTION, your doctor will do few blood tests to determine the exact cause of infection. It should be used only to manage infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria.

VANLID 250MG INJECTION is not recommended in patients who have hypersensitivity to vancomycin.

Before
receiving VANLID 250MG INJECTION inform your doctor if you have kidney
diseases or hearing diseases. VANLID 250MG INJECTION should be used in
caution in pregnant and breast-feeding women. Consult your doctor before
receiving it.

The common side effects of receiving VANLID 250MG
INJECTION include difficulty in breathing, fall in blood pressure,
redness of body and face, fever, etc. Contact your physician if any of
the symptoms worsen with time.

USES OF VANLID 250MG INJECTION

Used in adults and children: 

  • To manage endocarditis (infection to the inner lining of heart with symptoms of fever, chills, difficulty in breathing)
  • Manage serious or severe infections caused by susceptible strains of methicillin-resistant (beta-lactam-resistant) staphylococci
  • Manage
    hospital acquired pneumonia (infection of the lungs that makes
    airspaces to be filled with fluid or pus with the symptoms of fever and
    chills, cough with phlegm or pus, headache, difficulty in breathing,
    tiredness)
  • Manage infections of the skin
  • Manage
    infections of bone and joint (includes osteomyelitis, arthritis, spinal
    infections etc with symptoms of pain in bones, fever with chills,
    swelling in joints, pain at the site)
  • Manage infections of central nervous system (such as meningitis (infection of brain), abscess, brain enlargement)

HOW VANLID 250MG INJECTION WORKS

VANLID
250MG INJECTION is a glycopeptide antibiotic that works by managing
cell wall formation of infection causing bacteria by blocking the
enzymes responsible for it.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

VANLID
250MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a
vein as an intravenous infusion. Your doctor will decide the correct
dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and
disease condition.  

SIDE EFFECTS OF VANLID 250MG INJECTION

COMMON

  • fall in blood pressure
  • difficulty in breathing
  • swelling at injection site (thrombophlebitis)
  • skin rashes with fever
  • redness in face and body
  • chest pain
  • back pain
  • whistling sound while breathing
  • hives  
  • itching in skin
  • kidney diseases
  • mucosal inflammation

UNCOMMON

  • temporary or permanent hearing loss

RARE

  • dizziness
  • fever with chills
  • nausea
  • loose stools
  • ringing sound in ears
  • spinning of head
  • inflammation of blood vessels
  • nausea
  • anaphylactic reactions

Stop receiving VANLID 250MG INJECTION and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:  

  • skin rashes, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing, dizziness
  • cardiac arrest (loss of consciousness breathing and heart function)
  • skin with rashes, blisters, pain along with fever
  • occurrence
    of areas with redness and swelling on body along with fever (skin
    condition called acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis)
  • painful
    red area without blister formation which spreads quickly and causes
    skin to peel associated with fever, chills (toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • occurrence of diarrhoea which may be severe or continues for a long time during (it may be a sign of bowel inflammation)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Swelling at injection site:

Do
not massage the affected area. Apply ice packs or cold packs at the
site. Inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve. 

Nausea:

Avoid
eating fried and greasy food. Take simple, light, small meals at
frequent intervals. Drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated always.
Inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Diarrhoea:

Drink
plenty of water, fluids and electrolytes such as ORS and stay hydrated.
Inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Headache:

Drink
plenty of fluids and stay hydrated. Try to be tension free and relaxed.
Take adequate sleep and rest. Avoid consumption of alcohol. Apply pain
balm if required. Inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve. 

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

VANLID
250MG INJECTION should be given during pregnancy only if considered
clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before receiving it.            

BREASTFEEDING

VANLID
250MG INJECTION should be given during breast-feeding only if
considered clearly necessary as it may pass through the breast milk.
Consult your doctor before receiving it.     

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

VANLID 250MG INJECTION has no or negligible effect on your ability to drive and use machines.  

KIDNEY

VANLID
250MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney
disorder. Consult your doctor before receiving it.    

ALLERGY

Do not receive VANLID 250MG INJECTION if you are allergic to vancomycin or any other ingredients of this medicine.  

OTHERS

Before receiving VANLID 250MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you:

  • have hearing disorder
  • blood disorders
  • sensitive to any food or medicine

Use in pediatrics:

VANLID
250MG INJECTION should be used with caution in with particular care in
premature infants and young infants, because their kidneys are not fully
developed and they may accumulate VANLID 250MG INJECTION in the blood.
This age group may need blood tests for controlling vancomycin levels in
blood. Consult your child’s doctor for advice.

Use in geriatrics:

VANLID
250MG INJECTION is used with caution in elderly people with kidney
diseases, hearing diseases and those who are undergoing dialysis. Your
doctor will do blood test and hearing test during management with VANLID
250MG INJECTION. Lower dose of VANLID 250MG INJECTION is advised for
elder people. Consult your doctor before receiving it.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug–Drug interactions:

 Before taking VANLID 250MG INJECTION inform your doctor if you are receiving the following medicines:    

  • medicines
    used to manage infections (Ex. antibiotics like streptomycin,
    gentamycin, amikacin, bacitracin, piperacillin, tazobactam)
  • medicines used for managing tuberculosis (Ex. viomycin)
  • medicines used to relieve pain (Ex. Propofol, ketamine, Ibuprofen)
  • medicines used to manage cancer (Ex. cisplatin)
  • medicines used to manage fungal infection (Ex. Amphotericin B)  
  • medicines for muscle relaxation during anesthesia (Ex. atracurium, mivacurium)

Overdosage:

VANLID
250MG INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse
in a hospital and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However,
consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms.
