Introduction About SEPTRAN SUSPENSION
SEPTRAN PAEDIATRIC SUSPENSION is a combination of Sulphamethoxazole and Trimethoprim which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used in infants and children to manage severe lung infections and toxoplasmosis (infection with the Toxoplasma gondii parasite). It can also be used to manage urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections (bronchitis), ear infections (otitis media) and nocardiosis (affect the lungs, skin and brain).
SEPTRAN PAEDIATRIC SUSPENSION must be taken for the stipulated duration as instructed by your doctor to achieve better results. Failing to complete the full course of the therapy or skipping doses in between the therapy may not result in adequate infection control. Talk to your doctor before administering this medicine to your child, if your child has any problems in their liver or kidney.
You must also inform your doctor if your child have asthma, any allergic conditions, genetic disorders, blood-related disorders, folic acid deficiency or high blood potassium levels as a precaution. The most common side effects of giving SEPTRAN PAEDIATRIC SUSPENSION are headache, nausea, diarrhea, high blood potassium levels, fungal infections of mouth or skin rashes. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect troubles your child.

How SEPTRAN SUSPENSION Works
SEPTRAN PAEDIATRIC SUSPENSION works by inhibiting the susceptible bacteria by blocking the production of certain essential vitamins (folate) that is necessary for the bacteria to grow, multiply and survive. Therefore, it helps to inhibit the susceptible bacteria and stops their further growth and multiplication within the body which helps in reducing the severity of the infection.
How to use SEPTRAN SUSPENSION
Administer SEPTRAN PAEDIATRIC SUSPENSION to your child as advised by your physician. Shake well before use. Measure the required quantity of the medicine in a measuring cup and administer it to your child. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Stop administering SEPTRAN PAEDIATRIC SUSPENSION to your child and contact your doctor immediately if your child experiences any of the following side effects:
- severe allergic reactions (skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat causing difficulty in breathing or swallowing, chest pain and fainting)
- severe skin reactions (generalised skin redness with pustules accompanied by fever, ulcers in the mouth, throat, nose, genitals, red, swollen eyes, severe skin rash with blistering and peeling of the skin, red pinpoint targets under the skin)
- signs of abnormal WBC count (fever, swollen glands, weakness, light-headedness, shortness of breath, bruising with or without skin rash)
- unexpected worsening of cough and shortness of breath

Do not administer SEPTRAN PAEDIATRIC SUSPENSION to your child if your child is allergic to Sulphamethoxazole, trimethoprim, sulphonamide medicines (such as gliclazide, glibenclamide) or to thiazide diuretics (such as Bendroflumethiazide).
