Introduction About ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET
ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET is a combination of Atorvastatin and Cholecalciferol (or Vitamin D3) which belongs to the group of medicines called Cholesterol lowering agents and Vitamin D respectively. It is used to reduce high blood cholesterol levels (hyperlipidaemia) in patients when diet and lifestyle changes does not result in adequate response.
By reducing blood cholesterol levels, it can also be used to manage the risk of heart attack, stroke, angina and other heart related problems. It can also be used to manage vitamin D3 deficiency and bone disorders (such as osteoporosis) among patients who have both hyperlipidemia and vitamin D3 deficiency.
Along with the management, you must follow a cholesterol-lowering diet, lifestyle changes and regular physical activity as instructed by your doctor to achieve better results. Avoid consuming alcohol or grapefruit juice while taking ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET as it may lead to unwanted side effects.
Before taking ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET inform your doctor if you have any lung, liver, kidney, or heart problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have diabetes, hypertension, thyroid problems, or a family history of muscle disorders.
Do not take ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET if you are pregnant or breastfeeding without consulting your doctor. The most common side effects of taking ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET are inflammation of nasal passage, throat pain, joint pain, back pain, constipation, nausea and headache. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect worsens.

How ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET Works
ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET contains two medicines namely, atorvastatin and cholecalciferol. Atorvastatin is a cholesterol lowering agent. It effectively reduces the levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides in the body by blocking the actions of an enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase that synthesizes cholesterol within the body. It also acts on the liver and improves the body’s ability to remove fat particles from the blood.
Cholecalciferol is a form of Vitamin D. It supplements your body with a sufficient amount of Vitamin D3 which manages vitamin D3 deficiency and its associated bone problems. It also improves the cholesterol-reducing actions of atorvastatin and can reduce the muscle pain and damage caused due to atorvastatin within the body.
How to use ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET
Take ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET can be taken with or without meals.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and health condition. Do not stop taking ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET without consulting your doctor.
Side Effects Of ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET
Common
- inflammation of the nasal passages
- throat pain, nose bleeds
- increase in blood sugar levels
- increase in blood creatine kinase
- headache
- nausea, constipation, indigestion, diarrhoea
- joint pain, muscle pain and back pain

Uncommon
- anorexia (loss of appetite)
- weight gain
- dizziness
- having nightmares, insomnia
- tingling sensation
- decreased sensation to pain or touch
- changes in sense of taste
- loss of memory
- blurring of vision
- ringing in the ears followed by vomiting
- bloating, abdominal pain
- neck pain, muscle fatigue
- fatigue, feeling unwell, weakness, chest pain
- swelling especially in the ankles (oedema)
- raised temperature
- high blood calcium levels
- increased calcium levels in urine
Rare
- visual disturbance
- unexpected bleeding or bruising
- cholestasis (yellowish discoloration of the skin and whites of the eyes)
- tendon injury
Stop taking ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- severe allergic reactions (such as skin rash, blisters in the skin, severe peeling, blistering of the skin and swelling of the skin, mouth, eyes, face, lips, tongue and/or throat with difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
- unexplained muscle pain or weakness, especially if accompanied by fever, weakness, or reddish-brown urine (rhabdomyolysis)
- unexpected bleeding or bruising
- severe skin rash with joint disorders and changes in blood counts (Lupus-like disease syndrome)
How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea and Vomiting:
Take ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if your nausea worsens.
Headache:
Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if required. Do not consume excessive alcohol. Reduce looking into bright light and try to get adequate sleep. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.
Constipation:
Eat plenty of fiber rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals. Drink plenty of fluids. Exercise more regularly. Consult your doctor if this side effect bothers you.
Warning & Precautions

Pregnancy
ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it. Women of childbearing age must use a reliable contraceptive method to avoid pregnancy while undergoing therapy with ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET. However, if you accidentally become pregnant while taking ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET, stop taking it and consult your doctor immediately.

Breastfeeding
ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or operate any heavy tools or machines if you feel dizzy or sleepy after taking ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET.

Alcohol
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET as it may lead to unwanted side effects.

Kidney
ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with kidney stones. It should be used with caution in patients with other kidney problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Liver
ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver diseases. It should be used with caution in patients with a history of liver problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Allergy
Do not take ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET if you are allergic to Atorvastatin or Cholecalciferol.

Lungs
ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with lung diseases (such as severe respiratory failure). Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Heart Disease
ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with high blood pressure. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
Others
ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- have hypercalcemia (high blood calcium levels)
- have hypercalciuria (high calcium levels in the urine)
- have increased amount of vitamin D in blood (hypervitaminosis)
Before taking ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- have an unexplained muscle pain
- had any muscle problems in the past
- have an improper functioning of thyroid gland
- have a personal or a family history of muscle problems
- are an alcoholic
- have diabetes
- are overweight
- have a previous history of stroke
- have a previous history of bleeding within the brain
- have small holes or pockets in the brain due to previous stroke
- have sarcoidosis (a type of connective tissue disease)
Use in pediatrics:
ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET should be used in children and adolescents (aged 12 years or older) only if prescribed by the physician. Your doctor will decide the correct dose of ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET depending on your child’s age, body weight and health condition.
Use in geriatrics:
ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 70 years or older). Therefore, consult your doctor for advice before taking it.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:
- medicines used to manage graft rejection (Ex. cyclosporine)
- medicines used to manage bacterial infection (such as fusidic acid, erythromycin, clarithromycin, telithromycin)
- medicines used to manage fungal infection (such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, fluconazole, posaconazole)
- rifampin (a medicine used to manage tuberculosis infection)
- other medicines used to reduce blood cholesterol levels (such as gemfibrozil, fenofibrate, cholestyramine, colestipol or ezetimibe)
- medicines used to manage heart problems (Ex. amlodipine, diltiazem, digoxin, verapamil, amiodarone)
- medicines used to manage viral infections such as HIV or Hepatitis C (Ex. letermovir, ritonavir, lopinavir, atazanavir, indinavir, darunavir, the combination of tipranavir/ritonavir, telaprevir, boceprevir and the combination of elbasvir/grazoprevir, ledipasvir/sofosbuvir)
- warfarin (a medicine used to manage blood clots)
- oral contraceptives (used to manage pregnancy) Ex. levonorgestrel
- medicines used to control epilepsy (such as phenytoin, stiripentol, phenobarbital)
- medicines used to manage stomach ulcers (such as cimetidine)
- antacids (used to neutralize stomach acid and to reduce heartburn) Ex. aluminium hydroxide or magnesium hydroxide
- phenazone (a medicine used for pain relief)
- colchicine (a medicine used to manage gout)
- St. John’s wort (an herbal preparation used to manage depression)
- laxatives (used to manage constipation) such as paraffin oil
- thiazide diuretics (used to remove excess water from the body) such as hydrochlorothiazide
- corticosteroids (used to manage pain and inflammation) such as prednisolone
 B. Drug-Food interactions:
Avoid consumption of grapefruit while taking ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET as it may lead to unwanted side effects.
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally took more ATORSAVE D 10MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
