Introduction About ADDPHOS GRANULES

ADDPHOS GRANULES contains Sodium acid phosphate which belongs to the group of medicines called Inorganic salts. It is used to manage hypophosphatemia (low blood phosphorous levels) and hypercalcemia (high blood calcium levels). It can also be used to manage phosphate depletion and calcium-based kidney stone.

ADDPHOS GRANULES should be used with caution in patients with impaired kidney function, congestive heart failure or high blood pressure. The safety of ADDPHOS GRANULES in pregnant and breastfeeding women has not been established. Consult your doctor before taking it.

ADDPHOS GRANULES should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking it. Inform your doctor if you experience any side effects after taking ADDPHOS GRANULES.

Uses Of ADDPHOS GRANULES

To manage:

  • Hypophosphatemia
  • Hypercalcemia
  • Phosphate depletion
  • Calcium based kidney stone

How ADDPHOS GRANULES Works

ADDPHOS GRANULES work by decreasing calcium in blood in patients with hypercalcemia. It also works by binding to the calcium ions present in the gut and helps to manage kidney stones and the oral phosphate present in this medicine helps to correct hypophosphatemia (low blood phosphate levels).

How to use ADDPHOS GRANULES

Take ADDPHOS GRANULES as advised by your physician. It should be taken with meals. This medicine should be emptied and dissolved in 2/3rd to 1 full glass of water. Stir briskly and swallow the contents immediately. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you based upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Warning & Precautions

Pregnancy

The safety of ADDPHOS GRANULES in pregnant women has not been established. However, ADDPHOS GRANULES should be used with caution in pregnant women having high blood pressure (pre-eclamptic toxemia). Consult your doctor before taking it.

Breastfeeding

The safety of ADDPHOS GRANULES in breastfeeding women has not been established. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Kidney

ADDPHOS GRANULES should be taken with caution in patients with impaired kidney function. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Allergy

Do not take ADDPHOS GRANULES if you are allergic to Sodium acid phosphate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Heart Disease

ADDPHOS GRANULES should be taken with caution in patients undergoing management for congestive heart failure or high blood pressure. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Others

Before taking ADDPHOS GRANULES, inform your doctor if you:

  • have any conditions associated with significant electrolyte imbalance

Use in Geriatrics:

ADDPHOS GRANULES should be used with caution in elderly patients due to risk of hypocalcemia (low blood calcium levels). Consult your doctor before taking it.

Interactions

A. Drug – Drug interactions:

Before taking ADDPHOS GRANULES, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

  • medicines used to reduce acidity (Ex. aluminium hydroxide, calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate)
  • calcium supplements
  • vitamin D (used to maintain bone health)
  • parathyroid hormone (used to control blood calcium levels)
  • anticonvulsants (used to manage fits) Ex. phenobarbital, carbamazepine
  • bile Acid Sequestrants (used to lower cholesterol) Ex. cholestyramine
  • corticosteroids (used to manage inflammatory conditions) Ex. prednisone or methyl prednisone
  • insulin (used to manage diabetes mellitus)
  • ACE inhibitors (used to manage high blood pressure) Ex. benazepril, captopril, enalapril and lisinopril
  • cyclosporine (used to manage rejection of organ transplantation)
  • heparin (used to thin blood)
  • Non-steroidal Anti-Inflammatory drugs (used to manage pain) Ex. ibuprofen
  • cardiac Glycosides (used for heart failure) Ex. digoxin

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of ADDPHOS GRANULES, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose include low blood calcium levels.
