INTRODUCTION ABOUT AZITHRAL XL 100MG LIQUID
AZITHRAL XL 100MG LIQUID is used in children to manage infections caused by bacteria and other microorganisms, which include chest, throat, and nasal infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, sore throat, and sinusitis.
It is also used to manage ear infections (such as acute otitis media) and skin and soft tissue infections (such as an abscess or boil) and sexually transmitted diseases (caused by Chlamydia trachomatis/Neisseria gonorrhoea) in the affected child.
It contains a medicine called azithromycin, which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics that works by preventing the growth of bacteria and helps clear up the infection.
Before administering AZITHRAL XL 100MG LIQUID, inform your doctor if the child has diabetes, myasthenia gravis (a condition marked by weak muscles), heart problems, liver problems (such as an impaired hepatic function), and/or kidney problems (such as impaired renal function).
AZITHRAL XL 100MG LIQUID is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women since it is used only in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). It is also not recommended for use in elderly patients.
The most common side effects of administering AZITHRAL XL 100MG LIQUID in children are stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhea, flatulence, dizziness, headache, skin rash, or itching. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms become worse in the child.
USES OF AZITHRAL XL 100MG LIQUID
Used in pediatric patients:
- To manage infections caused by bacteria and other microorganisms, which include chest, throat, and nasal infections
- To manage ear infections such as acute otitis media and skin & soft tissue infections such as abscesses or boil
- To manage sexually transmitted diseases caused by organisms such as Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoea
HOW AZITHRAL XL 100MG LIQUID WORKS
AZITHRAL XL 100MG LIQUID works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis (essential for the bacteria to grow) that results in its destruction, thus managing its growth and spread of infection in affected individuals.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Administer AZITHRAL XL 100MG LIQUID in the child as advised by your physician.
For syrup: shake well before use.
For dry syrup: shake the dry powder loose and reconstitute the dry powder in the required ml of water before consuming.
Your doctor will decide the exact dose and duration of management for your child depending on the child’s age, body weight, and disease condition.

COMMON

- sudden wheeziness, difficulty in breathing, swelling of eyelids, face/lips, rash, and/or itching (affecting the whole body)
- signs of serious bowel inflammation, such as severe or prolonged diarrhea
- signs of cholestatic jaundice such as yellowing of skin and whites of eyes, dark urine

BREASTFEEDING

AZITHRAL XL 100MG LIQUID is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it is used only in children.
KIDNEY
Use with Caution
AZITHRAL XL 100MG LIQUID should be administered with caution in children with kidney problems such as impaired renal function. Consult your doctor before administering the medicine to the child.
LIVER
Use with Caution
AZITHRAL XL 100MG LIQUID should be administered with caution in children with liver problems such as impaired hepatic function.
ALLERGY
Contraindicated
Do not administer AZITHRAL XL 100MG LIQUID if the child is allergic to azithromycin, other antibiotics such as erythromycin/clarithromycin (macrolides), ketolides, and/or any other ingredients of this medicine.
HEART DISEASE
Use with Caution
AZITHRAL XL 100MG LIQUID should be administered with caution in children with heart problems.

Before taking AZITHRAL XL 100MG LIQUID, inform your doctor if you are taking the following medicines:
- medicines used to manage migraine (Ex. ergotamine)
- medicines used to manage blood clots (Ex. warfarin)
- ciclosporin (used to manage transplanted organ rejection)
- antacids (used to manage indigestion) Ex. aluminum hydroxide, magnesium carbonate
- digoxin (used to manage heart failure)
- colchicine (used for gout and familial Mediterranean fever)
- terfenadine (used for skin allergy)
