INTRODUCTION

RCIFAX SUSPENSION contains Rifaximin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used in adults and in children (aged 2 years or above) to manage infectious diarrhea. Infectious diarrhea is a stomach condition caused due to intestinal infections. It causes severe diarrhea which may be presented with stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting or fever.

Rifaximin is an intestinal antibiotic. It kills the susceptible bacteria that causes infection by blocking the actions of certain enzymes in the bacteria that is required for its survival. As a result, it stops the growth and multiplication of the harmful bacteria in the gut and controls diarrhea.

Take RCIFAX SUSPENSION for the stipulated duration instructed by your doctor even if you feel better during the midway of the therapy. Inform your doctor if you can’t notice any improvement in your condition or if you feel worse after 3 days of therapy.

RCIFAX SUSPENSION is not recommended for use in patients with bloody diarrhea or diarrhea accompanied by fever and in patients passing unformed (soft or liquid) stools for more than 8 times a day. It is also not suitable for use in patients having any stomach problems (such as constipation, vomiting, or stomach pain due to blockage in the gut).

Inform your doctor before taking RCIFAX SUSPENSION if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or breastfeeding as a precaution. RCIFAX SUSPENSION may cause pink or reddish discoloration of urine. This usually disappears after discontinuation of the therapy. However, consult your doctor if it bothers you.

Other most common side effects of taking RCIFAX SUSPENSION are headache, flatulence, stomach pain, constipation, urge to empty bowels and fever. Contact your doctor if any of these side effect worsens.
