INTRODUCTION ABOUT SULSEAS DS TABLET
SULSEAS DS TABLET
contains Sulfasalazine which belongs to the group of medicines called
Aminosalicylates. It is used to manage inflammatory bowel disease such
as Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s disease and rheumatoid arthritis.
Ulcerative
Colitis is an inflammatory disease which affects only the large bowel
(colon and back passage), the lining of the bowel becomes inflamed (red
and swollen) and symptoms include abdominal pain and diarrhea (may have
blood and mucus).
USES OF SULSEAS DS TABLET
It is used to manage:
- ulcerative colitis
- crohn’s disease
- rheumatoid arthritis
HOW SULSEAS DS TABLET WORKS
SULSEAS
DS TABLET works by suppressing the overactivity of the immune system in
autoimmune diseases and blocks the chemical messengers that cause
inflammation (swelling).
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take
SULSEAS DS TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine
with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide
the right dose and duration depending upon your age, body weight and
disease condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF SULSEAS DS TABLET
COMMON
- indigestion
- heartburn
- nausea
- dizziness
- headache
- changes in taste
- ringing in the ears
- cough
- itching of the skin
- purple discolorations on the skin
- joint pain
- protein in urine
- fever
UNCOMMON
- depression
- shortness of breath
- abdominal pain
- diarrhea
- vomiting
- hair loss
- hives
- puffiness around the eyes and face
RARE
Stop taking SULSEAS DS TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- allergic
reaction such as sudden wheeziness, difficulty in breathing, swelling
of eyelids, face or lips, rash or itching (affecting the whole body) - jaundice
- severe
skin rash that causes blistering (affects the mouth and tongue),
life-threatening skin rashes (exfoliate dermatitis, Stevens-Johnson
syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis) - fever, pains in your joints, hives, swollen glands, rash and itching (signs of serum sickness)
- any unexplained bleeding
- bruising, fever, rash, pallor (paleness), severe sore throat or tiredness (signs of abnormality in blood)
- rash or fever or swollen gland may be a sign of DRESS (drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms)
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea:
Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. Inform your doctor if symptoms do not reduce.
Headache:
Avoid bright lights, drink lots of water and take rest. Inform your doctor if symptoms do not reduce.
Cough:
Drink more of warm water, take honey, ginger for relief. Taking steam also helps. Inform your doctor if symptoms do not reduce.
Indigestion:
Eat smaller meals, chew the food thoroughly. drink lemon or ginger tea. Inform your doctor if symptoms do not reduce.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
Inform
your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby before
taking SULSEAS DS TABLET. Your doctor will decide whether to take it or
not.

BREASTFEEDING
Avoid
breastfeeding while taking SULSEAS DS TABLET as there have been reports
of diarrhea or blood in the stools of babies. Consult your doctor
before taking it.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
SULSEAS DS TABLET is unlikely to affect your ability to drive or use machines.

KIDNEY
SULSEAS DS TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking.

LIVER
SULSEAS DS TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking.

ALLERGY
Do
not take SULSEAS DS TABLET if you are allergic to Sulfasalazine,
salicylates (Ex. aspirin) or sulfonamides (type of antibiotic) or any
other ingredients of this medicine.

LUNGS
SULSEAS DS TABLET should be used with caution in patients with asthma. Consult your doctor before taking.
OTHERS
SULSEAS DS TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- have porphyria (a rare blood pigment disorder)
- have jaundice
Before taking SULSEAS DS TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- have blood disorders
- have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (an inherited condition)
- have a history of recurring chronic infections
- your child has arthritis
Use in pediatrics:
SULSEAS DS TABLET is not recommended for use in children below 2 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking.
Use in geriatrics:
SULSEAS DS TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking SULSEAS DS TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- medicine for high blood sugar (Ex. metformin, glipizide)
- digoxin (to manage heart failure)
- folic acid or folate (Ex. Spina Bifida) to reduce risk of neural tube defect
- azathioprine
and mercaptopurine (help to suppress your body’s immune response in
organ transplantation and certain chronic inflammations (Ex. rheumatoid
arthritis) - methotrexate (used to manage rheumatoid arthritis)
- methenamine (for managing urinary tract infections)
Overdosage:
If
you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of SULSEAS DS TABLET,
consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms
of overdose are nausea and vomiting.

Can SULSEAS DS TABLET be used in children?
SULSEAS
DS TABLET is not recommended for use in children below 2 years of age.

What if I take more of SULSEAS DS TABLET accidentally?
If
you or anyone else accidentally take too much of SULSEAS DS TABLET,
consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms
of overdose are nausea and vomiting.

Any tests to be taken while on management with SULSEAS DS TABLET?
Your
doctor will take blood tests to check your blood, urine (for protein),
kidneys before you start management with SULSEAS DS TABLET and regularly
during management.
