INTRODUCTION ABOUT METROZIDE GEL
METROZIDE
GEL contains Metronidazole which belongs to the group of medicines
called Antiprotozoal drugs. It helps to control infection and
inflammation in certain skin problems, such as rosacea (skin redness and
flushing with or without small red pus-filled pustules on the skin) and
acne. It is also helpful in the management of wound infections,
diabetic foot ulcers and vaginal infections.
METROZIDE GEL is for
external use only. Cleanse and dry the affected areas before applying
the medicine. Do not expose the managed areas in direct sunlight. Wear
protective clothing and consult your doctor for a suitable sunscreen
while going outdoors.
Before using METROZIDE GEL, inform your
doctor if you are suffering from any kind of blood disorders (Ex. blood
dyscrasias) or neurological disorders (such as nerve damage). You must
also inform your doctor if you suffer from any allergic skin conditions
(such as contact dermatitis) as a precaution.
Do not use
METROZIDE GEL without consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or
breastfeeding. The most common side effects of using METROZIDE GEL are
skin dryness, redness, itching and/or irritation at the site of
application. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect bothers
you.
USES OF METROZIDE GEL
It is used to control infections and inflammatory lesions associated with:
- Rosacea (skin redness and flushing with or without small red pus-filled pustules on the skin)
- Acne
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Wounds that have severe inflammation, redness and odour
- Vaginal infections
HOW METROZIDE GEL WORKS
METROZIDE
GEL is an antiprotozoal agent with antibacterial properties. It works
by killing the susceptible germs that cause infections in the body. When
applied on the skin, it destroys the infection causing germs and
manages their further growth and multiplication which therefore reduces
the severity of the infection.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Always
apply METROZIDE GEL as directed by your physician. It is for external
use only. Clean and dry the affected area before application. Apply a
thin layer of METROZIDE GEL on the affected areas. Wash your hands
before and after application.
Avoid contact of METROZIDE GEL with
eyes, ears, mouth, or nose. In case of accidental contact, rinse it
with plenty of warm water. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and
duration of therapy for you depending upon your skin condition.Â

COMMON

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

hot showers because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not
scratch the affected area. Use protective clothing while going outdoors.

ALCOHOL

alcohol. However, avoid consumption of alcohol while you are undergoing
therapy with METROZIDE GEL as a precaution.
ALLERGY
Contraindicated
Do not use METROZIDE GEL if you are allergic to Metronidazole.
USE IN PEDIATRICS

children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Therefore, consult your

USE IN GERIATRICS

Before applying METROZIDE GEL, inform your doctor if you:
- have blood dyscrasias (a blood condition affecting blood components, bone marrow, lymph and blood vessels)
- have any diseases affecting your nervous system
- have contact dermatitis (allergic skin condition)
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug – Drug interactions:
Before applying METROZIDE GEL, inform your doctor if you are taking:
- anti-coagulants (medicines used for thinning the blood) Ex. warfarin
Overdosage:
If
you or anyone else used more METROZIDE GEL or swallowed the medicine,
contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital straight
away.
